According to @ShamsCharania, the Orlando Magic are finalizing a deal to hire Sean Sweeney as the team’s new head coach.
Sweeney served as the Spurs’ associate head coach this season and played a major role in San Antonio’s defensive success throughout the playoffs.
He replaces Jamahl Mosley, who was dismissed earlier this month and has since become the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans.
Tiago Splitter unlikely to land Blazers’ full-time head coaching position, via @JakeLFischer.
Portland hopes to interview upwards of 30 coaches for the role.
Part of me thinks a Game 7 loss may actually be the best thing for the Magic. If Orlando wins Game 7, I can envision a scenario where they talk themselves into keeping Jamahl Mosley, and that would be a huge mistake.
WHAT A ROLLERCOASTER YEAR FOR THE MAGIC 🪄
-Picked early as contenders...injured, underperformeed
-Lost to B-team Celtics in last game
-Looked DEAD after Play-in loss vs. 76ers
-Dogs in do-or-die vs. Hornets
-ONE GAME FROM BECOMING SEVENTH 8-SEED TO EVER GET PAST ROUND 1
