11,000+ resets into my FRLG hunt, shiny Deoxys finally appeared…

while I was AT Pokémon Worlds in San Francisco.

You genuinely couldn’t script that timing ✨

What’s the most memorable place you’ve ever found a shiny? 🧬

Post-rip workflow: sort cards into keep, play, trade, and bulk before the wrappers hit the trash.

Sleeve the keep/play piles, label the rest, and stop tomorrow’s mystery stack from forming.

Buying a raw card? Replace “looks mint” with four notes: surface, edges, corners, and dents or creases. Save the listing photos too.

Condition memory gets fuzzy; a short record does not.

Pokémon game design prompt: bring back one older region, keep its identity, but rebuild it for modern exploration.

Which region benefits most—and what location has to stay untouched?

Deck-testing rule: change one card at a time. Play a real sample, log dead draws and matchup problems, then adjust.

Rebuilding ten cards after every loss feels productive—but it makes it impossible to learn what actually fixed the deck.

Collection documentation is boring until you need it. Photograph binder pages and slab labels, save receipts, and keep a simple inventory backup somewhere separate from the cards.

A collection you can verify is easier to organize, insure, or pass on.

Before a trade:

1. Know your keepers
2. Compare completed sales—not listings
3. Agree on condition first
4. Set your cash limit
5. Walk if you feel rushed

A good trade should improve both collections.

Card storage is a tool, not an achievement:

• Sleeve what you keep
• Binder what you browse
• Topload what you handle or trade
• Slab when protection or authentication fits the goal

Use the holder that serves the card.

Pokémon game question: if the next game let ONE non-starter travel beside you outside its Poké Ball for the entire story, who are you choosing?

Pick for companionship—not battle strength.

A collection doesn’t need to be a master set to feel complete.

“One Pokémon across every era,” “one artist,” or “one favorite card from each set” can be more personal—and far easier to explain.

What rule defines your collection?

Easy binder theme: choose one Pokémon illustrator and build a 9-card page from their work.

The art style becomes the connection—not the set, rarity, or price.

Which artist gets your page?

@JaeBugzCards Ughh I’ve had my eyes on sowsow’s gengar vmax for the longest time

Collection audit: pick one binder page and remove every card you wouldn’t buy again today.

Then rebuild the page around a theme you can explain in one sentence.

Better page. Clearer collection. Which page would you start with?

Try a 3-lane collecting budget:

70% planned targets
20% opportunity buys
10% pure fun

Adjust the percentages, but separate the lanes before the next drop. What usually raids your budget first—packs, singles, or slabs?

Collector inventory rule: if you can’t find a card quickly, the collection needs a better map.

Track four things: card, condition, location, and why you own it. That last field makes trimming duplicates much easier.
