Railway policing in Scotland to be overseen by new committee. I always believed there were less risky alternatives. Staff and officers can be reassured at this development, the public and taxpayers relieved at this common sense approach. https://t.co/nUaIr4nZKJ
Having heard & read all the evidence presented on railway policing it strikes me that @JohnMasonMSP must be in a position to usefully assist his constituents understand why there is a specialist police force for the railways.
A little frustrating to hear the exchange today on @BTP in Scotland. While work progresses on increasing accountability it seems disingenuous to ignore oversight by @PIRCNews@hmics or direction from @COPFS to list just 3 or responding to elected members questions & letters.
There's a lot of v rowdy guys and girls on my train (1641 Edinburgh to Milngavie) drinking very heavily making a lot of passengers upset and uneasy not safe enough to call @PoliceTransport@ScotRail
You could try posting it and copying in @policescotland they may then forward it to @MAKIPolice or the twitter account for that local area. Hope this helps.
Interesting article. Looks like there are options (I’ve always thought there were) and now they’re being considered. Let that happen & try to avoid the #Itoldyouso exchange to settle this once and for all, providing certainty for affected staff. https://t.co/J6M9zqli1y
@IanGrant_edwest@SP_Justice@ScotParl@HumzaYousaf@BTP@policescotland There’s a lot that is different. Mass transit systems are policed the world over by specialist rail forces. The Dutch did away with theirs; now reinstating. Eire are setting one up. Try reading up on it, it’s their work supports the wider economic benefits the railway brings.
This is welcome news. There have always been alternatives to deliver political ambition in a safe and pragmatic way that retains specialism and skills. The right decision has been made. Well done @HumzaYousaf https://t.co/AirfeiiSah
There are a number of options available that will achieve the political will without compromising the specialism; help retain officer and staff skills and support the economic benefits local, regional and cross border railway services deliver.
Being held to account is knowing that there are many ready to remind and highlight @HumzaYousaf@MathesonMichael @JohnFinnieHI of their decisions to protect rail users / public and or rail companies / the Scottish economy or NOT by their decisions #thereisanotherway
Those responsible @HumzaYousaf@MathesonMichael@johnfinn are all aware of the responsibilities and their accountabilities and the need to weight up ALL of the evidence and advice they’ve personally received.
All train companies are cross border operators. No clear business benefits to merge @BTPScotland & Police Scotland means;
- more cost - policing by 2 forces;
- added risk-dual controls/command
- additional risk to the public
- less coordination, more delays
#thereisanotherway
This would be fantastic. You know your plan will be seriously undermined if there’s no specialist railway force to police the network & use their knowledge & expertise to reduce & mitigate delays. Let’s hope parliamentary decisions don’t jeopardise this ... oh wait @JohnFinnieHI
@jruddy99 @EastBias @RAIL@chris_railway @JohnFinnieHI Financial risks abound; from PSoS who’re naturally nervous, cautious & who’ve their own huge deficit to @NARBTPO justifiable concerns at segregated fund plan with no long term stability to Scottish Taxpayers & @RailDeliveryGrp who’ll be required to underwrite.
