@Noahpinion So rather than just eat one big bag of Doritos a day, by next year we could have a bag and a half…and then 1.48x that bag-and-a-half the following year….we’d be eating 27 bags a day in under 20 years!
@Noahpinion When people 1) spend on junk food, 2) become obese and buy new clothes, 3) use more medical care, and then 4) take ozempic the rest of their lives, it all contributes to the riches that make America the best
@mattyglesias Well im glad it’s something technical called “baumol” rather than collusion, monopoly and lobbying that empties my wallet with exorbitant healthcare costs. Makes me feel less angry.
@AlexiLalas Yeah, that’s how other countries became soccer powerhouses, by making families of young players spend thousands and thousands every year?? No, only in America. Shame on us treating our young people this way
@mattyglesias Well, i guess it matters whether D or R donors get more of their special favors passed in a Talarico win, but for 99.9pct of Texans and Americans the policy outcome will be the same: help wall street and corporations, let ordinary people rot.
@RichardHanania@RachelBitecofer Im glad that Democratic presidents like Clinton and Obama did not gain significant wealth after their presidencies were over.
@MillieOfferman@mattyglesias We can just as easily have other constructed rights: maybe the penalty for any landlord failing to pass a spot surprise habitability inspection is 1 year of free rent to a tenant? That would go far to cure egregious lack of maintenance in properties rented to the public
@MillieOfferman@mattyglesias What’s morally repugnant is to enlist’s the state’s support in eviction when you are willing to accept only gains, but never losses, from life’s vicissitudes.
