You’ve written a novel. What comes next?

Self-publishing gives you plenty of choices – and you don’t have to do it all alone. My latest blog looks at putting your team together, finding readers and deciding what success means to you.

Jomsvikings, murder in post-war Austria, intrigue in Trinidad and Tobago, spies saving the Royal Family and a will-they/won’t-they romance – I love the variety of this job!

Need a copyeditor or proofreader for your novel? Drop me a message.

Ever heard someone say 'for all intensive purposes' or 'nip it in the butt'?

They’re examples of eggcorns – misheard phrases that have been reinterpreted into something that makes sense.

This blog post dives into the wonderful world of eggcorns.

I recently had the privilege of working on @grace_heathers's second novel, The Severance – it's a fantastic psychological thriller set in the West Midlands. Locals (including me!) will definitely recognise a few places! Check it out here:

@PJSkinnerAuthor Not a writer, but as an editor I’ve worked with writers who do this sometimes and find they occasionally cross over characters and plot points from one book to the other. Just something to keep in mind!

@HJamesWrites Bookmarks, but in a pinch I’ve used a receipt, a paper clip and even my phone (just while I searched for a proper bookmark!).

Are your descriptions too neutral? ‘He parked the car’ doesn’t tell us much, but make the car a ‘dirty, banged-up Fiesta’ and we learn a little bit more about the owner! #writingtips

@orbitbooks So glad to see the translator’s name on the cover rather than hidden away inside – they do such an incredible job and I’m happy to see them getting more recognition!

@BoldwoodBooks I had the pleasure of working on The House Sitter with @keribeevis – such a well-written thriller that kept me guessing until the end!
