So thankful to have been invited by the Collins family to @alfredcollins99 ‘s jersey retirement event.
NCAA rules prevented me from attending, so I cheered from the taco stand across the street then caught up
with them afterwards.
This wasn’t football, it was a family reunion.
An Eagle. A Longhorn. A 49er. Forever Cedar Creek. 🦅
Today we honor Alfred Collins and officially retire #99.
From Cedar Creek to @TexasFootball to the @49ers, Alfred continues to build a legacy that will live on forever in Cedar Creek history.
From Cedar Creek to the NFL ⭐🏈
Congratulations to Cedar Creek HS alumnus Alfred Collins on earning the Thomas Herrion Memorial Award from the San Francisco 49ers. A true example of perseverance and making the most of every opportunity!
George Kittle on rookie DT Alfred Collins:
“I cannot get over Alfred Collins. I just think he’s such a good player and you just see his effort out there. If you guys watch the all 22, I just think he’s making so many plays and so much effort and so much hustle. I’m just so proud of him.”
John Lynch on what Alfred Collins has done as a rookie to get the attention he’s been getting by the players on the team:
“Show up every day. You can look at Alfred as we did throughout the draft process and say, my goodness, thank you, Lord. There is a lot to look at and say, wow, he’s a big, huge man, very well proportioned. He’s athletic. He’s strong. So he’s got all of that. But then he’s a guy who shows up every day. And frankly, a lot of people were worried about him in the offseason. He came in with a calf injury. We knew that getting ready for the combine had a calf injury. We knew he was going to miss some time. And I think with the player of his height, that’s difficult because his pad level is so critical. And the only way you get your pad level right is by practicing. And so he missed a bunch. So it wasn’t great when he first got out there. But what did he do? He kept showing up. And when you have that much talent, when you’re coached by a guy like Kris Kocurek and Robert Saleh, if you just listen to him, you’re going to get better.”
