I’ve not seen a live Pompey win since Shrewsbury (H) Aug ‘21, hoping to break that duck today. Not a great start, dreadful defending - if they don’t do it today my next chance won’t be until I come back to the UK in December

So I am coincidentally in Bristol today on my visit back to the UK. Turns out it’s pretty tricky to buy tickets from the Ethiopian border. Been very busy recently, but more content soon!
John Mousinho: Tactical analysis, the mega-thread
This is without a shadow of a doubt my most ambitious and in-depth work on here to date, it took a hell of a lot of time to put together so I really hope you enjoy it!
All shares and feedback are appreciated! #Pompey#EFL
It’s probably more likely that this is the result of actively avoiding using Raggett as a passing option - you can see by the size of his circle vs Towler’s that Pack clearly didn’t want to pass back to him. I wonder how it would look with Bernard at RCB. #pompey
Below are the average positions where Pack's passes were received.
He mostly worked out of defence on the left between Towler, Ogilvie, and Morrell - which allowed him to effectively switch the play to Bernard (see above pass map and Bernard's advanced receiving position below)
I'm taking a look at Pack today. He mostly kept things ticking over against Barnsley, and although he didn't whip too many balls into the box, the assist for Bishop was great. Here's his pass map.
Maanta Pack waan eegayaa. Wuu wanaagsanyahay 😮💨

I should mention, as noted by @HancockAnalysis, that Morrell's positioning in the Fleetwood game looked like a conscious effort to overload the left side (although I think Lowery works better as the advanced 8 when he's fit).
As mentioned in @PO4cast this week, Joe Morrell seems to have been given a new role under Mousinho. For my first tweet, I thought I'd look at his positioning in his two matches under the new gaffer.
Morrell shaqo cusub wuu ka hayaa Portsmouth.
With the shift to 4-3-3, and the increased responsibility for midfield, a more advanced Morrell could help ease some of Pompey's creativity problems. However, in my opinion, he is not a 10 or free 8, and the box-to-box role he played against Exeter better suits his talents.
