I love the incremental improvement because it shows that she’s actually putting in the work to become better, rather than pretending she has nothing left to learn.
One thing that stood out to me from LISA’s Always LALISA documentary was her explanation that she wasn’t really given the opportunity to train as a singer in the beginning. She was positioned primarily as a rapper and dancer, and in order to survive at YG and avoid being eliminated, she leaned into that persona.
Going solo gave her something she hadn’t really had before: the freedom to explore her voice. And you can hear that exploration across her music. Her vocal development may not be about suddenly becoming a powerhouse vocalist, it’s about becoming more comfortable, more controlled, more expressive, and more versatile with the voice she has.
That’s what makes her growth interesting to watch. She’s learning as she goes: singing, songwriting, performing, acting, fashion, creative direction, and everything else she wants to conquer.
She doesn’t have to already be perfect at everything. The willingness to keep learning is part of the journey. And honestly, the incremental changes are sometimes more rewarding to watch because you can hear and see the work she’s putting in.
There is no denying the magnitude of her achievements
2022 - Best K-Pop | LALISA
She made history as the first K-Pop solo artist ever to win a VMA
2024 - Best K-Pop | ROCKSTAR
She became the first solo artist to win the Best K-Pop category multiple times.
2025 - Best K-Pop | BORN AGAIN with Doja Cat & RAYE
This marked her third consecutive win in the Best K-Pop category
2026 - Best Pop | Dream feat. Kentaro
A major breakthrough as she broke out of the K-Pop category into the mainstream global pop genre. She also became the first Asian solo artist in 42 years to win this major category
