🔥 Why is intumescent material important?
It will expand to fill the gap between the door and frame when exposed to high temperatures. The gaps are the most vulnerable part of fire doors as the pressure of a developing fire drives hot gasses between them.
#FDSW23@FDSafetyWeek
🔥When specifying and installing fire doors, remember to fit fire-rated hinges with intumescent hinge pads as specified, to achieve full compliance with the relevant fire standards. #FDSW23@FDSafetyWeek
Did you know? 🔥 On fire doors, fire-rated door hinges must be used because regular door hinges will warp, break or melt in the heat caused by a fire. This means the fire door will not be held in place within the frame, allowing the spread of fire and smoke. #FDSW23@FDSafetyWeek
Without certification, "fire rated" products may not be what they claim to be...
Our own Selective Ironmongery range has been designed, manufactured and tested with clear illustrations to make it easy to identify products' intended use, specification and certification🔥 #FDSW23
How to avoid the disastrous consequences of unsuitable ironmongery:
⚠️Use door scheduling services from a qualified provider
⚠️ Keep informed of up to date specs
⚠️ Only use products which provide fire certification and comply with current fire regulations

Research conducted by @FDSafetyWeek found 75% of the public surveyed correctly believe that propping a fire door open stops it performing its role in the event of a fire, but 44% wouldn’t take action as they wouldn’t know who to report it to.
Let's close the door on fire #FDSW23
🔥Myth: "It’s OK to prop a fire door open." 🙅♀️
🔥Fact: It's against the law to prop open a fire door 💪
These fire doors successfully stopped the spread of a fire at this school – but would it have been able to perform its job if it was propped open? #FDSW23#MythVSFact
Make #firesafety a priority when you are deciding where to live. A #firedoor could protect your possessions or even save your life in the devastating event of a #fire. Recognise it, Report it! #FDSW23

Following on from our post yesterday which highlighted the statistic that a third (32%) of the public surveyed would not report a problem with a fire door, what can you do?
Take a look at @FDSafetyWeek's 5 step fire door check online: https://t.co/OdJUXxQOkh
Research compiled by @FDSafetyWeek for last year’s campaign found that a third (32%) of the British public surveyed would not report a problem with a fire door, with a perceived lack of personal repercussions being one of the main reasons for not doing so. #FDSW23
🔥 Myth: "Fire doors don't make a difference." 🙅♀️
🔥 Fact: A properly maintained fire door can delay the spread of fire and toxic smoke 💪
That's right, fire doors buy precious time for a safe escape in the event of a fire. #FDSW23#MythsVSFacts
