In Tang China, there was official recognition of Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and Manichaeism, but not Judaism. We have a few traces of Jewish people from the northwest frontier, but as far as I know, there is no Middle Chinese word for Judaism. We can infer that Jews lived in Tang China, but presumably as a small minority. It is unclear what if any relationship the later Kaifeng Jews had with the Tang-period community.
