REGISTRAR'S PICK: November 2023
Everyone has heard of ships in bottles, but have you ever seen a service station in a bottle? In the artifact pictured below you will see a replica of Cliff Sherk’s Service Station, located at 416 West Main St., which is now a mechanics shop.
The donor shared that it had been made by a prisoner of war, circa 1943-1945. During WWII, a POW camp for merchant marine workers was operated at the Erie Peat Company, just outside of Port Colborne. Those at the camp often came into town and would have seen Sherk’s Service Stat.
