My first Hamlet was Kenneth Branagh's. Not knowing the story, the interval was unbearable. Have seen it 10x since, but nothing like Robert Hastie's high-energy production @NationalTheatre. Unique, unforgettable, are Hiran Abeysekara (Hamlet) and Francesca Mills (Ophelia). See it!
Nima Taleghani's first play, Bacchae @NationalTheatre retells the story in bursts of joyful and graphic rap. Rich in dramatic action it's short of dramatic tension, but draws great performances from Claire Perkins, Ukweli Roach, James McArdle and a blood-drinking Sharon Small🥸.
Still remembering Julie Taymor's extraordinary screen version of Titus Andronicus, was geared up for pure horror from the RSC version @Hamps_Theatre but no. The tongue-in-cheek theatrics are balletic and joyfully silly as are the costumes and set. Avoid if blood makes you faint.
Spot-on. A great spectacle though we were howling at the silliness of the sudden and subsidiary storylines as much as the sparkling repartee. Just wished for more subtlety and oomph in the writing of the relationships at the heart of the story to pull the threads together.
Review: The Lady from the Sea, Bridge Theatre - Alicia Vikander and Andrew Lincoln play a troubled married couple in auteur director Simon Stone’s alternately very silly and very serious Ibsen rewrite

Deeply saddened by the death of Robert Redford. Just looking at the clips on the news makes my heart race, he was magnetic on screen and totally believable. And he put his passion and money where his heart was... #respect
Moved to post by the departure of @MishalHusain from @BBCr4today. She's been an insightful, rigorous, exemplary interviewer across the years, a morning masterclass in pulling out the information that matters without rudeness or manipulation. 😰
The Scottish launch of the inaugural St Andrew's Book Festival was held at Prestonfield House in #Edinburgh last night.
Sir Ian Rankin is one of a host of Scottish literary greats taking part in the event in London from 25 November-1 December. With @susan_pym@beathhigh
Didn't love the play but Anjli Mohindra and Harmony Rose-Bremner (both acting and singing voice) are extraordinary, with a fabulous trio of veteran gold alongside: Deborah Findlay, Gina McKee, and Romola Garai.
It’s causing waves in the theatre already (for men!) but this is a dazzling production of Annie Ernaux’s memoir where 5 women (aged 20 to 70) assemble a kaleidoscope of events in one woman’s life, from sex & consent to radical politics @AlmeidaTheatre https://t.co/BzAjMZFaUN
@lizhoggard@AlmeidaTheatre Didn't love the play but Anjli Mohindra and Harmony Rose Bremner (for her singing as well as acting) are knock-outs, with a starry trio of veterans alongside - Gina McKee, Deborah Findlay, and Romola Garai.
@susan_pym What a relief. I am gobsmacked by how upset I am - all that fasting for nothing😂😂. And I cleared the whole BH weekend to do the tests... How are you Mrs P? Missed @mihirbose book launch, but going to his Chiswick event🧐
