8th graders spent the afternoon of Career Day touring TCATPortland and Sumner County Middle Technical College High School.
Students were able to visit each of the programs offered and hear from Instructors.

Members of our football team had an opportunity to be Vanderbilt “Students for the Day”. It was a day of events ending with tickets to the SC vs VU game. In the 1st picture Portland East is on the right and Rucker Stewart on the left. Sumner County was well represented!#co_sumner

Sixth grade science students were asked the question- does changing an object’s mass or speed affect the object’s kinetic energy? Then, they were given hot wheels, cardboard, & other supplies to find out. Students learned that both affect KE with speed having the greatest impact.
6th grade ELA participated in a socratic seminar. Students collaborated and shared their thoughts insights into the transformation that has happened in our Module 1 text Bud, Not Buddy.
We were so impressed with their preparation and the academic discussion that took place 😊

Three former Portland East students performed in the All-State Band Saturday. They were selected by blind audition as some of the best student musicians in Tennessee. They are:
