Me: I’m going to write something COMPLETELY different. What is a comfort zone?
Also me: How did we get back to overthrowing governments? Who did this?!
I’ve hit a nice little wall with the #FemmeFanTale readathon. I don’t want to read what I chose for the last book. So I downloaded two fantasy novels from the library. I’d rather fail to meet all the goals than fall into a reading slump!
@JeansThoughts Above all else, for me, is a fully immersive world. Whether it’s historical or entirely fiction, I want to feel like I’m transported elsewhere. Interesting characters and plot are great. But easy escapism and worldbuilding are my favorite.
@TiffanyPitcock The key phrase I’ve learned: “Can I finish?” Or if they’ve really upset me: “Do you want to listen or just slap a prescription on it? Don’t want to waste anyone’s time here.” Husband is very fond of the latter.
Your regular reminder that your female characters must be perfect (but not too perfect) at all times.
But your dude characters can be serial killers and people will talk about how hot and tortured they are.
FYI.
/Rant over
@TheBookNeuk Aww that’s so sad to hear. I feel like too many retellings fall into the trap of making their version twisty or plain hard to follow to be different. Especially retellings that have been popular. 😕 Hope your next read is better!
