A truck loaded with roughly 800 kg of explosive material, nails and metal balls was confiscated yesterday by Lebanese security mechanisms while moving from the Baalbek area to Beirut.

The two men driving it are Hezbollah members. In interrogation they said a Hezbollah senior named Sayed Sajad asked them to bring the cargo to another senior in the organization who is staying in Dahiyeh.

Security mechanisms are now working to identify the other Hezbollah members tied to the shipment. All of this is unfolding while negotiations are underway.

People in France want nigh unlimited funding for everything ranging from Boomer communism to the world’s most lavish welfare state, and no one in electoral politics dares to tell them that all of their demands are physically impossible to meet because courageous politicians are also stupid politicians.

There is no escape. No one can do what must be done because the rewards are too great for those who counter-signal against doing the right thing.

A lot of people missed the "be patient" part of this post. But. I will repeat it again and again. On the very most important thing that he does, public safety, Mamdani purposely said before the general election that he was going to keep Tisch, and he kept Tisch, and he is continuing to keep Tisch, and he will continue to keep Tisch after last night. So it's a little weird that much of his loyal opposition now tries to slot this willful sustained deliberate decision into some unimportant trivial afterthought as if she were the commissioner of pet food or something. New York City is not a left-wing city. Even many of the left-wingers aren't really left-wingers. Mamdani knows this because, again, he is not a political moron.

California has tech. NY has finance. But apart from these flagship industries everything else is in these states is decaying and entropic. (Maybe aside from the luxury real estate sector.)

The biggest growth sector is one form or another of fraud: Either bilking entitlements for fake services or having Medicaid hire you to hang out with your grandparents.

It’s hard for Hochul and James to do anything about this because a large and growing proportion of their constituencies is dependent on various forms of fraud. Fraud has become normative. Once fraud becomes endemic and a necessary part of the economy, politicians, the government, and the institutions can’t do anything about it and get locked into a death spiral.

That’s why California is devouring its tech sector and NY is chasing away billionaires: there are no brakes or central governing intelligence in a political economy that is now primarily parasitic, they can’t even moderate to avoid killing the host.
