@favelaoverlord Spare a thought for us Bongs, having to divine whether we need to scroll to U for United Kingdom, G for Great Britain, E for England or some special surprise option
@pegobry_en One of the funniest events from early woke was the attempt to censure anonymous Grindr users for discriminating against minorities (putting “no blacks, no Asians” in their profiles, ignoring their messages)
@stachonix@kunley_drukpa The Spanish-speaking version is that GB sponsored PY’s destruction because GB wanted to trade and was frustrated by PY’s isolationism.
Argentines in particular love that theory because 1. They hate the British anyway 2. It absolves them of their responsibility for the war.
@eugyppius1@taqnull Yes and ban food delivery apps ffs. They didn’t exist 15 years ago, they are 100% unnecessary, and even the most centroid establishment media criticise them for their exploitation of the poor noble browns (they want the browns to have contracts and paid vacations and such, lol)
She went off in a huff and immediately asked some other guy, who obliged and opened her bottle. She did not immediately start demanding he pay for it, so I momentarily felt like an asshole.
Lesson for injured women: don’t expect high social trust from me in tourist traps
Funny, just the other day I remembered a similar situation some years ago in the courtyard of Milan’s Castello Sforzesco.
I’m sitting on a bench resting my feet. Middle-aged white woman comes over holding a sealed bottle of water, her wrist in a cast.
Another automobile anecdote, from my student days many years ago. I think about this one a lot:
I was returning from shopping at the supermarket and noticed a portly German man in his 70s pacing beside an older SUV. The driver's door open. He was accosting other people, who walked away, and when I came near him he stopped me too.
"Please, can you help me?" Thick Bavarian accent.
"What I can I do?"
"Can you back my car out of this parking spot for me?"
He pressed the key into my hand, and I stood there baffled. The lot was basically empty, he could also just pull forward out of the space. I put my bag of groceries on the ground and approached the open door. The interior was filthy, not with trash, but some brown substance over everything. I looked back at the man and he had a weird look in his eyes, eager, desperate, also maybe a bit angry. Was he going to let me start his car and claim I was trying to steal it? Was this some kind of scam? The situation felt weird and I decided I needed to get the hell out of there.
I gave the man his key back and suggested that maybe he shouldn't be driving. I even thought of calling the police, but what could I really say? Also I'd left my phone at home. From across the street I watched him continue to pace. He got in his car, backed it halfway out of the spot, then got out again for some more desperate pacing and more accosting random people.
After about five minutes he drove off.
Her: “could you open this for me?”
I am extremely suspicious, already on high alert from the shitty bracelet scammer African men always present out the front of the castle
Me: “…no, sorry”
Her: “what?! Why not?”
Me: “just can’t, sorry”
