Somali community members in the Twin Cities will meet following a shooting that injured two teenagers Friday night during a homecoming football game at Eden Prairie High School in Minnesota.
Police say officers broke up a fight near the stadium and removed several people from the grounds. Shortly afterward, officers responded to a shooting in the school’s parking lot.
The injured teens, ages 18 and 17, are both from St. Paul. The 18-year-old was discharged from the hospital on Saturday, while the 17-year-old remains hospitalized with injuries that are not life-threatening.
As community members prepare to meet, Yusuf Abdulle, executive director of the Islamic Association of North America, called for a conversation about gun violence and public safety. He also criticized political rhetoric that stereotypes the Somali community.
“We strongly condemn politicians who exploit tragedies for political gain by labeling, stereotyping, and targeting an entire community,” Yusuf said in a public statement.
Asad Khalif Aliweyd, a longtime Eden Prairie resident and community advocate, urged parents, neighbors and educators to work together to prevent violence and keep young people safe.
“Our students and families deserve to feel safe. We must come together as parents, neighbors, educators, and community leaders to speak up, look out for one another, and take action to prevent violence,” Asad said.
Following the shooting, the school canceled Saturday night’s homecoming dance. Eden Prairie High School Principal Jayden Anderson said that “holding a dance less than 24 hours after a trauma in our community feels out of place.”
Governor Tim Walz also addressed the shooting, saying no community’s homecoming should be disrupted by gun violence and expressing concern for students and families.
Police continue to investigate and have not released details about any suspects
@BTweeter87 this misses the point. if a child grew up around nothing but disabled people, they would react the same way upon seeing a non disabled person for the first time.
niggas will get a tweet off like this during ANY highly publicized SA case then all of a sudden you’ll get idiots coming up to you like “I thought it was debunked”
this is calculated and you should ***
@djinn_the@mlmliberation@ReggiSaxx proletarians at the time and resulted in a bourgeois-led society due to inherent class contradictions within the revolution itself. Haiti is similar in that regard. Though I do agree distinctions should be made regarding the nature of a revolution by who was involved.
@djinn_the@mlmliberation@ReggiSaxx it didn’t result in a proletarian-led/dictated society precisely because it happened before communism as a concept was born. had it not happened, there would be no concept of a socialist society which is why bourgeois revolutions were necessary. France was also largely led by
@emirkobain@BirdmanRRAR@ReggiSaxx so should we call it something it’s not because it was unfair to them? that’s simply what happened. the Haitian revolution being a bourgeois revolution does not make it a “bad” revolution.
@ReggiSaxx why do you get upset at people calling the haitian revolution what it was? it’s still a goated revolution. or do you simply think bourgeois = bad?
The Talmud teaches that anyone who sustains one soul, has sustained an entire world. For generations, Jewish New Yorkers have sustained our city. Today, we are launching the first-ever municipal Strategy to Combat Antisemitism.
Together, we will ensure Jewish New Yorkers are safe and celebrated. We will invest in their protection, their history, and their future.
Our safety and our thriving are tied together.
People have to understand that the everyday violence experienced by Black and brown New Yorkers is embedded in the practice of policing and statecraft. The NYPD is to not only protect property and enforce the existing social order, but the ever expanding police powers exist in the name of protecting particular group "Jewish people" that mean's increased surveillance, harassment, for the rest of us.
all war is class war
racism is a system of alienation. it cannot be abolished unless capitalism is abolished. leftists who use “class war” as a means to ignore racial issues fail because they don’t realize dismantling race and racism is a core tenant of abolishing capitalism.
@PoooandP no collection of people can ever truly be self-determined until class is abolished and the conditions that create their oppression are abolished. states reproduce class relations, hence the goal of (correct) black nationalism would focus on abolishing class/race relations.
people need to divorce the idea of self-determination from nation statehood.
there has never been a black nationalist movement that legitimately wanted/created a nation state that subjugates non-black people and there will never be one.
