American author, Jack London, who was born on this day in 1876 is known for such novels as The Call of the Wild and White Fang, He was also an activist for workers' rights, his non-fiction work, The People of the Abyss, exposed the terrible working conditions of the London poor.
Sixty-five years ago on 14/11/1960, a little six year old girl named Ruby Bridges started school. However, Ruby was to be the first black child to be admitted to an all white school under the New Orleans Integration System.
