@louis_phipps@IanCarter67 Hey Louis. I did not work on old vultures for olfactory abilities by myself. However, some observations may suggest that they can use smell indeed. Needs more works on this topic. Best
@NeilPaprocki @CJWMcClure @Nature_Is_Grand @hawkwatchint However, very few species have been estimated to date, and therefore, I would be cautious with saying that raptors can or cannot perceive UV. What is known is that there are very contradictory results. More studies needed
@NeilPaprocki @CJWMcClure @Nature_Is_Grand @hawkwatchint This is interesting that Viitala found this in CK and in this species. I would have love to see his experiment, but here, the number of individual is very small and the statistical test may not be appropriate. However, it would be interesting to study this species more.
@CJWMcClure Hey Chris, hey all,
So indeed, it is not true to say that golden eagles can perceive UV as this species has never been studied. Very little is known about UV perception in raptors, but it seems that most cannot use UV for foraging. Check out this paper : https://t.co/OgAsswsKDj
Pleased to see that Lund University has signed up to the Read & Publish Open Access initiative by Company of Biologists - not-for-profit publishing organisation supporting & inspiring the biological community. This allows for Golden OA in the journals! @LundVision @Biology_LU
What a big news for this New Year. I am now a member of the IUCN commission on Ecosystem Management. Thank you for making one of my dream true @IUCN_CEM. I am excited to join your team and cannot wait to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
We did not expect that. Our paper "How fast can raptors see?" was one of the most cited paper of the year in Journal of Experimental Biology. @almut_kelber@LundVision
Very exciting news.

Privileged to have provided illustrations for this review on differences in raptor vision between dietary behaviors by @PotierSimon1 out today! Great work Simon!

Today we are marking #ALD20 by celebrating all of the great JEB women; from our Editors and Ed Board, to the PIs, postdocs, grad students, technicians and undergrad researchers that keep JEB at the forefront of comparative and integrative physiology
If you want to know how predatory and scavenging raptors differ in their visual abilities, please take a look at this review just published today ! It is all open access.
