Also, in a pre-internet age, Lew served as color commentator for those great Commerce cable television broadcasts of Tiger football games.
Lew was a great guy and a Commerce legend.
Our potluck prayers and condolences are with @thejoesanders and the entire Sanders family.
Tiger fans,
We've lost an all-time Commerce Tiger. Rest in peace Lewis Sanders
Lew, pictured from behind in his his legendary tiger striped coat, was an all-state tackle for the Tigers in the early sixties and helped lead Commerce to our first state title game in 1965.
After each season's game, the clock was possessed by the victors for one full year.
Then each season, during practice (whether welcome or not), Lewis would visit both Commerce and Jefferson to share the importantance and uniqueness of the rivalry with the players and coaches.
