It has been an honor to serve as an original plaintiff in the #SCOTUS case defending a #FairMap for #Louisiana. But today’s #redistricting ruling leaves me exhausted. Here is my full statement on #gerrymandering and #BlackVotingRights

Today’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais is a setback—but it does not change the truth: our democracy works best when every voice is heard and every community is fairly represented.

For too long, Black voters in Louisiana have faced barriers to equal representation.

60 Years Later

The Voting Rights Act changed history—but voter suppression is alive and well. This November, your voice, your vote, and your action are more important than ever.

📅 Early voting: Sept. 27–Oct. 4

Thank you for the shoutout @SymoneDSanders. We are extremely proud that LDF and our incredible clients and co-counsel were able to create a congressional district in which Black voters were able to elect a candidate of their choice in this election. Power is built brick by brick.

"This is a disastrous manifesto that would take us back decades, if not centuries, in terms of the progress that we've made on civil rights, on constitutional rights. This is a threat to democracy, and it is a special, specific threat to Black people." @JNelsonLDF on @MSNBC

Since 1961, all sectors of our society, including education, have used affirmative action to level the playing field.

Let’s be clear: Even with the constraints of the Supreme Court’s ruling, colleges and universities are still able to consider students’ experiences with race.

LDF is making sure that Black voters in our core states have the information that they need, can overcome hurdles that are put in front of them.

This upcoming general election will be one of the most consequential of our lifetime.

These stores are understaffed, inadequate store infrastructure for safety, not enough training, and rarely have community safety managers. The broken Dollar Store business model is abandoning NO East after flooding us with stores that discouraged new local grocery stores post-K.
