After 2 years, Mystic Hammer is now Cross Platform! It's like Plants vs Zombies mixed with RPG elements!

I can't see this going well for indie devs. (Or any devs. Hearthstone comes to mind...people install and uninstall a lot)
Also the offline thing is not a huge deal, but it was nice to be able to open the laptop on vaca in an area without wifi and do some game dev.
Cmon #Unity / #unity3d! I was just about to give game 2 a go on unity. This won't be fun for games with low price tag and on steam where it's possible you dont hit $100 for a check, but you'll owe Unity money for installs? 😬 Also no more offline dev?

Yes! This happened to me in Mystic Hammer. Towards the middle and then end, there are story cutscenes and you unlock more fun complex characters. I always felt I needed to revisit levels 1 to 10 or 20. When I finally did so, I instead focused on new player 3x0erience and tutorial
One of the problems with making indie games is that sometimes your skill set improves before you finish making a game and then you get trapped in the loop of what should you redo before finishing it.
Hello everyone! I know it's been a while, but went back to #unity3d to follow an amazing #indiegames tutorial by @UnityCodeMonkey that taught me to think different (Events). Check out my little playthrough of Kitchen Chaos! Let's make some burgers!

Hi, I'm Thomas - a stay at home dad making a VR game based on the drawings of his kid, who is on the #autism spectrum. I'm hoping to donate part of the proceeds to Autism Awareness & Acceptance. We have merch here: https://t.co/kDjeyJALJU & Kofi here: https://t.co/flIs8jWD4T
@dethsight True! The message was actually a little nostalgic actually surprisingly haha. I got to level 5 before seeing it so I was like "okay I accept my fate"
I began gamedev without programming experience, made a text-based MMORPG with:
- no framework
- no library
- no engine
Just raw HTML, PHP, MySQL. Tons of spaghetti code.
Released in 6 months and made a living from it for over 2 years.
Don't overthink it, just get things done!
Wow! ChatGPT hasn't ever been like this to me. Only been helpful with coding tips. Did Microsoft add some extra "bing flavor" on top of it that makes it worse? Or am I just not asking it enough about movies?
My new favorite thing - Bing's new ChatGPT bot argues with a user, gaslights them about the current year being 2022, says their phone might have a virus, and says "You have not been a good user"
Why? Because the person asked where Avatar 2 is showing nearby
@GreyAlien Ahh no problem! I was wondering if anything changes hah. But yeah, if within a month a game makes less than $100, Steam will not direct deposit and send an email saying you havent met the threshold to receive payment. In the U.S. at least.
Was getting ready for the speech again this yr to accountant of "Technically game made money, but Steam holds it till $100!" . But at the buzzer in Dec, one came in! 😅
Looking back on it now, there were some silly thoughts I had about game dev. One was "Don't show the cool cinematic so it doesnt spoil anything". An age old one is "Dont show it yet, some1 can steal your idea!". Idea < execution!!
What is your silly game dev thought?
What is up Twitter? I have to get over the weird feeling that I need to be developing a game to use Twitter. I should just be around instead of lurking! So here I am, not currently making a game!
I have been wanting to post some of the story clips from mystic Hammer. Maybe soon!
@rafrasenberg Yes! Tho it was at capacity today and I needed it to help me explain something with refactoring. If used right it is incredibly powerful for programming. A lot of times I have arguments with it and find best practices. Just don't believe the answers and double check!
