Scottish Type 1 Education Programme (STEP) equips people with newly diagnosed T1DM with skills to self-manage the condition. After STEP was introduced 60% of people met HbA1c level target range 12 months after their diagnosis, comparing to 48% in Scotland as a whole. @DiabetesUK

Research has identified a genetic variant found in 7.6% of people of S Asian heritage which manifests in falsely lower HbA1c results. Those people with 1 variant copy were diagnosed with T2DM on average 1yr later, while those with two copies were diagnosed on average 2yrs later.

@scivier_martin The patch pumps which allow control through app on smartphone are better for visual impairment than buttons on pumps, but there is still no pump designed for those with total blindness. It should be possible to make the apps work with screen-reader technology etc
