61 years ago today, my late sister-in-law, Vivian Malone, and James Hood, made history as the first two Black students to enroll at the University of Alabama. She would go on to be the school’s first African American graduate.
We have made great progress fueled by the courage and determination of people like Vivian. But more work remains to be done. We must continue the fight for justice, for fairness, for equality.
