~$16 million dollars was what it would have cost to save the only rail link to the Mackenzie River, a river that supports thousands of Canadians, many in communities with no otber reliable links, that is already struggling as is.

I am once again suggesting that given the current political, security, and industrial environments that Canada simply hits the 'Brampton go brrrrr' button and motorize the entire Army Reserve in Senator MRAPs.
Galileo is a BIG deal. Gets us moving away from GPS, the US Air Force system that donates almost everything we do from your phone to banking, positioning, mapping, stock trading etc etc. the US can manipulate it, but not if we have Galileo to check it
I have known Pierre Marc Johnson, former premier of Quebec and former leader of the Parti Québécois, for 20 years. When he speaks about international negotiations, I listen.
We worked together on the softwood lumber dispute in 2006 and later on the free trade negotiations between Canada and the European Union, when he was Quebec’s chief negotiator. We even travelled together to a climate change conference: he represented Quebec, while I was part of the Canadian delegation on behalf of the Prime Minister of Canada.
Yesterday, in an interview, he confirmed what I have been saying all week: showing up matters. An official dinner is an opportunity to build relationships, convey messages and speak directly with decision-makers.
On the opportunity Quebec’s premier would have had to sit beside Ursula von der Leyen, these were his words, translated from French:
“It would have been an opportunity to spend two hours discussing Quebec’s issues with her.”
A missed opportunity.
If there is one person in Quebec who understands Quebec’s role in Canada’s international treaty negotiations, it is him. He was at the heart of those negotiations.
On this file, as far as I’m concerned, his word is gospel.
Listen to him.
Dylan is wonderful, and the amount of work that he puts in to things is staggering. Hell, he can cover the Canadian scene better than a lot of our own media! Go give him some love.
I’m not sure I’d ever heard him speak in English before, wow, what a Southside of Chicago accent that guy has. Considering he spent most of his adult life in South America, that’s crazy. But so close to the accent for Gen X and older white Milwaukee natives, the accent I grew up hearing.
Anyway, go Brewers.
Patrick Stewart's stories from DUNE are pretty great. There's a whole thing about how David Lynch was disappointed when he showed up because ... well, I won't spoil it. And then this, on his first conversation with Sting, is quite funny:
We often look at the Nazi era through images taken by the regime itself. But those were designed to project power and order. Art historian Madeleine Johnson found some very different images of the 1934 Nuremberg rally... More in ZEITGEIST👇

Here’s a story for you. We started filming without owning the title and had to do alternates.
Taft Broadcasting owned the title Ghostbusters as part of their half-hour sitcom starring Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker (F-Troop) and a gorilla chasing ghosts. I had never heard of it. They didn’t have proton packs or Bill Murray. Columbia paid $500,000 to buy the name, but they really should have paid Dean Martin, from whom I first heard the term.
In the film Scared Stiff (1953), he and Jerry Lewis (check out his acrobatic stair descent) are in an old haunted castle, and Lizabeth Scott asks Dean: “Who are you guys?” And Dean answers: “You’ve heard of Trustbusters and Gangbusters, we’re Ghostbusters!”
For my research writing the first movie, I watched every single ‘ghost’ comedy ever made. Bowery Boys, Hope and Crosby, Abbot and Costello, Martin and Lewis all did such films.
Happy Halloween 2026.
CAN🇨🇦should establish a national waterbomber capability of federal, provincial, territorial & commercial aircraft that can deploy to reinforce local firefighting efforts. Support with basing, training/maintenance facilities, logistics of federal departments #FlexibilityOfAirpower
They should make a modern-day Hearts of Iron where you try to rearm but have a -100% factory build speed bonus because NIMBYs discovered a rare bat in that province.
Then war breaks out and every European country can field one under-strength division.
If you watch Frakes and Spiner's podcast (and you must, it's great), it's clear the cast feels the same way. They even had Matalas on recently. He listened to each cast member and addressed issues they had with their characters and they truly consider it to be TNG Season 8 (Frakes has even referred to it as that on the podcast).
Something I've been having trouble articulating is that Picard is an ideal masculine figure. He is wise and kind and understanding but when push comes to shove he makes it clear that he will engage in violence and he's gonna be fuckin good at it
Patrick Stewart was spectacular.
He brought Shakespearean gravitas to space and helped make Star Trek a dramatic powerhouse. This scene is a masterclass in screen acting: he displays two distinct emotions at once, and does it beautifully.
We’ve lost an absolute titan.
