You can find my piece about likability and memorability on @hackernoon which got picked up today. Happy reading, I tried to make it as poetic as I could. https://t.co/wvke3aD3cu
In just two weeks: some of the largest supply-chain attacks in history, a major commercial LLM sabotaging legitimate ML research requests, and a US export ban kneecapping the world's access to a major model release. More than ever, we need Open, Verifiable Inference.
Today we start shipping direct responses. A🧵:
I have spent north of three weeks writing this because the GDP answer is a blatant lie. Skyscrapers do not make a civilisation and neither do billionaires, consultants, 'skilled immigrants' or World Bank charts. Perhaps take your time with it over multiple reads.
Developing good taste requires failure, repetition, and the humility to ask someone what you should listen to next.
Streaming removed all three.
A man who never searches, fails, asks, borrows or returns to something twice does not develop judgment but terrible preferences.
I have been writing and polishing this for over two months now & it is finally ready. I could not think of a better place to spread word and would be grateful if you read it slowly, perhaps not as content to be consumed but as a thing to study.

They say to reject music that doesn’t praise the Lord. I’m very glad I was introduced to classical piano very early in my life…every piece I hear feels like a glory to behold.
My take on deterministic legacy and how the next five years are of paramount importance was recently featured. A big thank you to Will and the editorial team for capturing it so brilliantly. I tried to maintain a lot of my nuanced perspectives which you don't see being thrown around too often and I hope it helps you thinking about the state of the world, our work and our lives in a more intentional way. Every few years, we relearn the same lesson and then promptly ignore it. Systems that decide outcomes this consequential should be explainable to ordinary, competent humans without appeals to authority or proprietary mystique. You don’t need to allege malice to criticize opacity. As I see it, it is a moral failure rather than a tech mishap.
@neogyspandan People keep reacting to the spectacle instead of the substrate. This is about the fact that modern power is bottlenecked by a few unsexy materials and even fewer processing plants. Geopolitics has shifted from ideology to inputs and the bill always arrives late, compounding.
@MrIPalomera I can attest for this entire approach. I practically grew up not knowing I had a B12 deficiency and I still remember how magical the first week of proper supplementation felt. Surreal!
Japan’s ‘refinement’ of foreign is institutional.
Since the Meiji era, they’ve treated external influence as raw material to be re-architected. It’s the only modern nation that industrialised cultural assimilation with the same seriousness as economic reform. What you see here is just an echo of a 150-year-old national habit.
No culture is safe from nerds in Japan. Any song your people have or dish they make. Japanese autism will seize it and do it ten times better than your ancestors could’ve ever imagined.
What we have started calling trust issues might just be pattern recognition running too fast. Your brain is doing Bayesian inference (updating beliefs as new data comes in) but to everyone else it reads as suspicion.
How quickly we process patterns are a big deal.
Most people treat their identity like an open container where anything can be thrown in without much thought. They keep adding interests, aspirations, traits and borrowed influences because it feels expressive and expansive, but what it actually creates is a kind of internal fog.
When your identity becomes too large and too vague, your mind loses the ability to make clean decisions, because you are not sure which version of yourself is supposed to choose. Over time I have realised that the real and a huge problem is identity overload, and this is where I came up with something called MSI or Minimum Sufficient Identity begins to matter. MSI is the smallest and clearest version of yourself that still feels honest and grounded.
Look around you and take a hard look. People who are successful tend to have a very small and very stable identity which they can count one and makes them admirable. Look at someone like Elon Musk or Charlie Kirk for example and you may agree or disagree with their choices, but their identity is consistent and extremely narrow, which is why their execution seems sharp even when their environments are utterly chaotic. Their minds are quieter because their identity is not being re-evaluated every morning and as a result their decisions are faster, cleaner and more aligned with their long term direction.
What does this mean?
- It means ambition that is shaped properly.
- It means having a stable internal configuration that does not collapse every time life becomes overwhelming.
There is a point where you have to stop expanding who you are and start refining it. A coherent identity will always be more powerful than an expressive one. Sadly it also means countless people have traded their lives for being likeable by the masses. Miss you everyday Charlie, rest in peace.
The greatest privilege you can have is brilliant people around you while growing up. If they reason cleanly, you inherit their epistemic structure while everyone else spends their twenties detoxing from bad mental grammar. Huge alpha there.
I keep seeing crypto founders celebrate TVL like it is revenue and it is hilarious to me how they treat deposits like income and ignore cashflow entirely.
I still remember a DeFi team we worked with long back bragged about hitting $230m TVL in a quarter and investors clapped it was all on their PR and even the chart looked heroic...but the cashflow slide never came. Why? Because their incentives promised 45% APR that meant $1.6m in rewards flowing out every month and fees from usage were $400k so in essence they were bleeding $1.2m monthly while their “success” graph went up.
Then came the redemption wave. 12% of TVL left in a weekend and outflows continued then treasury tokens were dumped to cover payouts so of course the prices slipped where users smelled weakness. Growth was still “up and to the right” on paper but in reality the runway was measured in weeks.
Funny thing is this does not happen in just crypto because I saw a payments startup do the same recently where they offered instant merchant payouts while Visa and Mastercard settled at T+2 and volume doubled but float collapsed.
Founders you need to always pair your growth slide with a cashflow slide. If deposits and liquidity are diverging please fix it before the next pitch. Stress test redemptions at 10% a day & count how long you last.
Growth can kill you faster than failure if cashflow is ignored.
This is a hard truth.
I don’t understand why the world insists on reducing women to binaries. either you’re intelligent or you’re feminine. either ambitious or faithful. why can’t a woman hold paradox: be sharp in her mind, soft in her presence, steady in her values, without being forced to amputate one part of herself?
It’s horrid that albania appointed an “AI minister”. once you start automating moral failure, it only gets worse. humans built the corruption, now they’ll hide behind the machine. The new world order is bound to follow this, just think of the implications….
