For the past seven days, villagers from Shirange Khanyale, Dodamarg, have been on a chain hunger strike against hazardous quarrying near the Tilari Dam project. Local officials from Dodamarg visited the site and found that stone crushers and quarry units posed a threat to the reserved water supply area.

Environmentalists and social activists from Goa, Rajendra Kerkook and Ramesh Gawas, met with the protesters to gather information and condemned the ongoing mining, warning of its impact on Goa’s future water supply.

Goa's Water Resources Department officials also inspected the quarry area this morning and acknowledged the serious threat it poses to Tilari’s water supply.
