Yeah I had high hopes when that calendar first came out, too. Except those are all just "maybe" days. We still don't know when we're holding votes each week until the Speaker's office says. Makes it hard to know when to start my 4-hour drive. Or when to schedule Raleigh meetings.
It's almost 8am on Monday and we still haven't been told what the voting schedule is this week 🤷. I'm about to show up to my other job where I'm lucky to have an understanding boss. Your regular reminder that those in power really don't want working people to hold these seats.
North Carolina has been without a budget for 1,000 days and yet the Republican majority just voted for bills to benefit the richest in the state, and then went home for the week. Thank you Rep. Prather for always fighting for NC communities instead. #ncpol#ncga
Rep. Phil Rubin:"The easiest thing we could do in this body to bring property taxes down is the pay for the things we're supposed to pay for. 38% of the Wake County tax increase is going to subsidize what the state is supposed to be paying for."
Democratic Leader Rieves: "We could pass a bill to help with property tax relief TODAY. We're choosing not to." This constitutional amendment will do NOTHING to help North Carolinians. We could help them, but Republican leaders care more about getting votes in November.

JUST IN: A newly proposed rule seeks to formalize the process for how the state responds to alleged campaign finance violations. The draft says complaints would now be “confidential," sparking concerns from transparency advocates. #ncpol

Just so we're all on the same page - a budget deal was *announced* yesterday, but there is no actual, final budget deal. They have a "framework" (their words). We have nothing in writing to even consider or discuss, much less vote on. Still waiting.
Lawmakers announced a budget deal yesterday. They told us about the raises.
Here’s what they didn’t tell us: how many state jobs are being eliminated to pay for it.
A thread. 🧵

NC House Democrats Introduce Bill to Help Recoup Money for Ratepayers
“This bill is about fairness: You don’t change the rules of the game while you’re playing it, and that is exactly what Republican leadership did with this legislation.”
Grateful to the workers and retirees who took their time to come to Raleigh and advocate for themselves and their colleagues. We can and must do more to support our state employees in NC
“North Carolinians want us to get ahead of this."
"No more cost-shifting onto working families,” Prather said. “The public should be held harmless from increased costs associated with large data centers coming to town.”

Me checking my email: Oh, I've been assigned to a subcommittee about prisons. Awesome! We must finally be addressing abysmal pay for correctional officers and staffing up more assistant district attorneys around the state!
Me checking Twitter: oh. no.
