Hon. Foreign Minister Mr Shisir Khanal addressed the 9th Indian Ocean Conference in Port Louis under the theme “Collective Stewardship for Indian Ocean Governance.”
He highlighted Nepal’s deep and organic link between the Himalayas and the Indian Ocean, noting that ecological interdependence from melting glaciers to rising seas demands a shared global response.
Reaffirming the rights of landlocked countries under UNCLOS, he called for inclusive, rules-based governance rooted in equity, international law and shared responsibility for our global commons.
He also urged greater recognition of the mountain–ocean climate nexus, including through Nepal’s Sagarmatha Sambaad platform.
“What melts in the mountains eventually rises in the seas,” he said.

Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr Shisir Khanal, currently in Port Louis, Mauritius for the 9th Indian Ocean Conference (10–12 April 2026), held a bilateral meeting with Dr S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India.
Dr Jaishankar congratulated him on assuming office.
The two leaders reviewed the longstanding, multifaceted Nepal–India relationship.
Both sides held constructive and forward-looking discussions on matters of mutual interest, reaffirming their shared commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

Ambassadors/Heads of Mission of India, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, United Kingdom, Qatar, Switzerland, France, Israel, Japan, Bangladesh, Germany, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, China, United States of America and United Nations were present for the joint call on.
The Ambassadors/Heads of Missions congratulated the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister and conveyed greetings and messages from their respective heads of state/government. They also expressed support and cooperation to the new Government in delivering results for the benefit of Nepali people.
Reiterating Nepal’s balanced and pragmatic foreign policy, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of deepening relations with immediate neighbours, friendly countries and development partners based on trust, mutual respect and shared prosperity. He expressed appreciation for the continued goodwill and support extended to Nepal’s development efforts.
Saying that peace must remain our shared priority, the Prime Minister emphasised the importance the Government attaches to the safety, security and well-being of Nepali workers and the larger Nepali diaspora abroad.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the Government’s determination to ensure good governance, achieve economic development and improve the livelihood of Nepali people.

Foreign Secretary Mr Amrit Bahadur Rai and senior officials warmly welcomed the Hon. Minister at the Ministry. The Foreign Secretary briefed the Hon. Minister on the work of the Ministry and assured him of their continued dedication and commitment in carrying out responsibilities under his leadership.
Upon assuming office, the newly appointed Minister took a decision to expand the online system of the Department of Consular Services to ensure more efficient and effective service delivery.
The Hon. Minister also instructed the MoFA team to work in a more innovative and impactful manner, in line with the aspirations of the people.

Foreign Secretary Mr. Amrit Bahadur Rai presented the national report to the 51st Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group of the Human Rights Council in Geneva today.
Mr. Rai highlighted Nepal’s continued progress in protecting and promoting human rights, including advancing civil, political, social, economic and cultural rights and strengthening democratic institutions.

On the second day of the High-Level Meeting on “Forging Ambitious Global Partnerships for Sustainable and Resilient Graduation of Least Developed Countries” in Doha, Foreign Secretary @amritrai555 chaired a session titled “Fostering Resilient Graduation through Smooth Integration into Global Trade.”
In the afternoon, Foreign Secretary Mr. Rai held a meeting with Ms. Rabab Fatima @USGRabab_UN, Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS. They discussed various issues related to LDC graduation and broader cooperation between Nepal and the United Nations.

Speaking as the Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of LDCs, Foreign Secretary Mr. Rai underscored the persistent challenges facing the LDCs, including deep-rooted structural impediments, limited access to international markets, widening digital divides, resource constraints and increasing climate-related impacts.
The Foreign Secretary called for stronger global solidarity and enhanced partnerships to ensure their smooth, sustained and irreversible graduation.
