It was #OTD in 2003 that Sammy Sosa came to the plate in the 1st inning with runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out vs the Tampa Bay Rays. Sosa hit a grounder that shattered his bat and when the umps picked it up, they found cork in it. Sosa said it was an accident – that he had used the bat during batting practice and accidentally grabbed it by mistake when he went to the plate. Sosa was ejected and later suspended without pay for 7 games
