Jordan Peterson on why “good kids” who never break rules can end up worse off.
Lots of teenagers today don’t drink at all. On the surface that looks positive. But if the reason is zero friends and sitting miserable in a basement, it’s not progress.
He referenced Nietzsche: most morality is cowardice, people too timid to act who then dress up their fear as virtue. The kids in his high school who never touched alcohol weren’t always “good.” Some were simply inhibited.
The data point he raised: adolescents who never break any rules face higher later risk of depression, anxiety, and dependent personality patterns. Those who break every rule often land in serious trouble. The developmental sweet spot sits somewhere in the middle, enough exploration (even risky) to build capacity without total chaos.
Not a call to delinquency. A call to avoid both extremes.

Folkens.
Life cannot just be about one sad thing after another.
There must also be things that make us super excited and inspired about the future. This is one of things. Bigtime.
