NMA Finally Examines Mazi Nnamdi Kanu After Court Order But His Lawyers Cry Foul Over Worsening Health

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has confirmed it has carried out the court-ordered medical examination on the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and submitted its findings to the Attorney General of the Federation.

NMA Secretary-General, Dr. Ben Egbo, disclosed this in an interview on Sunday, noting that the association acted in line with the directive of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

On September 26, Justice James Omotosho had ordered the NMA to assemble a panel of medical experts within eight days to assess Kanu’s health and determine whether he should be transferred from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody to the National Hospital.

Egbo explained that a committee of seven doctors, representing Nigeria’s geopolitical zones and covering specialties including Ophthalmology, Neurology, Urology, and Gastroenterology, conducted the evaluation.

“They went there, examined him, and the committee wrote their report to us, and it was sent to the Attorney General of the Federation,” Egbo stated.

The court also mandated the panel to assess the DSS hospital’s capacity to manage Kanu’s health needs, granting them liberty to use any hospital in the country for their investigations.

Egbo stressed that further inquiries should be directed to the Ministry of Justice, saying:

“We have submitted the report to the Attorney General’s office as instructed. Anyone seeking details should contact the Ministry of Justice.”

Kanu Petitions World Medical Association

Meanwhile, Kanu’s legal team has petitioned the World Medical Association (WMA), alleging that his health has deteriorated due to inadequate medical care in DSS custody.

In a letter dated October 3, 2025, signed by his international counsel, Bruce Fein, Kanu claimed he has been in solitary confinement for over four years without trial since his arrest in Nairobi, Kenya, in June 2021.

The petition, addressed to WMA President Dr. Jacqueline Kitulu and copied to several Nigerian institutions, warned that his condition had reached “a life-threatening threshold.”

Kanu alleged irregularities in his medical records, inconsistencies in test results, and inadequate treatment for conditions including potassium deficiency, hypertension, tinnitus, and organ-related complications.

He praised Emeritus Professor Martin Aghaji for stabilising his condition, warning that without his intervention, his health “would have deteriorated beyond recovery.”

Fein, in the petition, urged the WMA to:

• Ensure the release of the NMA’s medical report.
• Protect independent medical practitioners from retaliation.
• Recognise tinnitus and sleep deprivation as urgent medical threats.
• Review the conduct of DSS medical personnel for compliance with professional ethics.

“Without immediate decisive action by the WMA and NMA, the medical neglect of MNK may prove fatal,” the petition warned.

DSS Silent

As of press time, the DSS has not issued any official response, with the agency currently lacking a spokesperson.

Why Are They Breaking All Laws To Make Sure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu Remains In Dungeon

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu without political power or money has instituted a movement capable of toppling the corrupt and wicked political structure in place in the South East, as well as ending One Nigeria as you see it today.

Politicians felt threatened by the movement created by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. It is purely a movement of the people. People are driven by the spirit of sacrifice and determination. The members of this group are even ready to pay the ultimate prize for what they believe in. They have been killed in numbers and sent to prison yet they remained resolute.

They watched him close down markets and schools just by appealing to the people and the entire South East became a ghost time. After his arrest in 2015, his house became a pilgrimage. Millions come to see him whenever he visits a village or city. Nothing like that has ever happened in the history of Africa.

These and many more made him a confirmed enemy of politicians, especially evil and dirty ones without regard for the people. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a danger to these politicians. He has awakened the people and pushed them against the corrupt leaders. This is why they are determined to see him perish.

I have watched fools and idiots blame IPOB leadership for the continuous detention of MNK. They say this and I wonder if they are normal at all. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a pure danger to politicians and they are happy they have him. And his refusal to betray you adds to his problems.

Will Mazi Nnamdi Kanu walk free? Yes, he will. No human can kíll Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. He will live and die a natural death. Those holding him will have no option soon other than to free him. Events will happen and these events will facilitate his freedom.

Never you miss the point. Politicians are the ones holding MNK. They see him as an obstacle to their râping of all of you.

You must not allow politicians to fool you. Some of them will claim to love you. They will claim to love the struggle and even donate to it. I will not say they should be driven out. I am saying you must be the one to use them and not them using you.

Lolo Okwu Kanu recognized the unparalleled feats accomplished by our team, which have left an indelible mark in the pursuit of justice and human rights for her husband, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

It was indeed an honour to receive Lolo Okwu Kanu's gratitude and to be reminded of the importance of standing up for justice, even in the face of adversity.
The visit offered our esteemed Lead Counsel- Prof. Mike Ozekhome, SAN, the opportunity to chronicle the trajectory of the turbulent storms we relentlessly weathered all through, towards achieving the unprecedented milestone, notwithstanding the storm of the moment. When Mazi Nnamdi Kanu started, many people especially politicians and those in support of politicians all looked down on him. They said he was nothing. They said his supporters are poor, uneducated and jobless.

But the man armed with mere online radio kept blaring and preaching freedom to his people. He stood against all forms of oppression and marginalisation. He showed his people what selflessness is and became an example of what he preached.

While politicians looted money and starved people during lockdown, he shared food with his people and felt what they were going through.

With time the stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. He has turned into a voice to reckon with. O burugo ide ji ulo.

When they realised it had become too late for them, they came after him, injected criminals into his movement and had him kidnapped yet they couldn't destroy his movement.

Because of him, Nigeria has set out to ridicule itself. They have disobeyed their own laws and constitution. And because of him, they have elevated injustice and nepotism to a greater height. It is now clear that Igbo people are hated and won't be allowed to experience the same things others experienced.

Those holding him never knew that his continuous illegal detention tells his people that only a country away from Nigeria will save them. Like he said he is already fighting from the front and his illegal detention speaks louder than everything.

Today it doesn't matter if you love Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or hate him, it doesn't matter if you believe in his cause or not, one thing is certain. Within your heart, you know that this is a man without guilt. A man who has given it all for the freedom of his people.

Friends, brothers, sisters and foes, this is an opportunity to recognise your leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and say how you feel about him.

It was a historic victory.
