After the FTX disaster, we must leverage critical thinking more and put our trust in the technology, not those with status.
Mt. Gox, 3AC, FTX…it all seems so obvious in hindsight, yet everyone got caught up in the mania.
Someone should’ve checked.
@elonmusk has changed the significance of the verified check mark with Twitter Blue. By making the check purchasable he has removed its exclusivity and the status it once provided a holder.
‘If everyone is notable, no one is notable.’ - @gillesdc
As @gillesdc states;
‘The verified check mark symbolizes status, it is not social status itself.
In fact, because of ‘Checks’ it may not even symbolize status anymore.
May because it’s subjective: to some it still will, to other it doesn’t anymore.’
SBF had status. He had public trust. He had a blue check.
Yet no one knew what was going on between FTX and Alameda.
We blindly trusted him because of his status.
Did anyone check what SBF was up to? No, we, the public trusted him.
We watched him play video games while he gambled our funds.
Forbes put him on their cover whilst we admired his billionaire lifestyle.
Someone should’ve checked.
Inspired by @jackbutcher, @jalil_eth and @Vince_Van_Dough, 'SBF Checks' pays tribute to our inability to question what SBF was up to despite it being so obvious in hindsight.

I've put the exact strategy of how we did it in a PDF doc.
