Sources have revealed that at least eight Belgian soldiers have died in Walikale territory, in North Kivu. Among them is Sgt Jimmy Luis Flander, who was killed while operating a drone in an attack against the rebels. The armored vehicle he was sitting in was destroyed in the attack, and two drones were also shot down. 

The Great Lakes Eye had earlier published an article on the deployment of Belgian Commandos—estimated to number between 300 and 400 soldiers, roughly two companies—who were expected to engage the rebels directly alongside the Congolese army coalition. This prompted Belgian Minister Maxime Prevot to deny the information, as he was not expecting it to be made public.

In his rebuttal, Prevot, through his X account, claimed that Belgium has only six soldiers in Kindu, the capital city of Maniema Province, for “the implementation of European support.” He emphasized that there is no deployment aimed at participating in any operations. However, the number of deceased soldiers in military operations contradicts the Minister's statement.
