Today, October 4th, the beginning of a new dawn, the Premier of Manitoba is @WabKinew. Now and forever. Thanks for playing everybody. You’ve all been so brave.
@paulloewen@danremps@MeghanJMJW@northendmc @pattyboge @KaraBoohoo @Beardune @janessa_allison We will revamp and modernize our zoning regime to allow for greater housing density everywhere.
We will adopt a "no more sprawl" policy.
We will commit to a percentage of budget to rebuild our tree canopy.
We will learn from cities that are environmental leaders (@cityofselkirk)
@paulloewen@danremps@northendmc @pattyboge @DaveSawatsky@KaraBoohoo @Beardune @janessa_allison Teach kids to swim and to ride bikes as part of the public school system and reduce provincial government subsidies for private schools. Eliminate fundraising in schools, pay for school yard improvements and classroom libraries through government funding.
People living in unhealthy and damaging ways will have to go out of their way to do so, against the flow. If a system got us into this mess, we need to change the system to get out.
Many of the problems we face today are systemic, and will not be solved by charity or goodwill. When it comes down to it, we want to properly account for negative externalities and align incentives as well as possible.
We'll take @pegcitycarcoop and expand it to the entire city. If a family/unit feels they need to buy a second or third car, we've failed -- there should be enough collectively owned cars that no one feels that need.
We'll get rid of parking requirements, and incentivize businesses and housing on public transportation lines. We'll reclaim parking lots for housing, greenspace, and open markets.
