@patmart100@SketchesbyBoze I gather that you use "bullshit" as short-hand for "a good argument that I can't disprove". ๐
Either improve your discourse or don't bother responding to me.
@patmart100@SketchesbyBoze I'm a Dickens fan, too, as it happens. But I don't mistake my preferences for universals.
The French Revolution was in Dicken's past. On current affairs Dickens is as mute as Austen (who refers to the Napoleonic Wars in Persuasion, & to slave plantations in Mansfield Park)
@patmart100@SketchesbyBoze Dickens never says anything about the Crimean War or the Indian Mutiny, so he's no different from Austen. And his upper class people are clearly not drawn from life, although they are enjoyable.
@SketchesbyBoze People who have never read Austen sometimes have the vague idea that she is merely an early romance writer. So, if they ever read Austen, that may be all they see.
Sometimes, I find that the simplest solution is just a change of attitude.
When Iโm down about my writing, I donโt condemn it (or myself) as garbage.
I think, โHmn, still needs a lot of work.โ
I just saw an online ad from a supplier โof all your Viking needs.โ I must bookmark that in case I feel like renting a longship and invading England.
Yes, AI content is produced faster than mine.
But then a Mcdonaldโs hamburger is produced faster than a dinner at a restaurant with three Michelin stars.
โYou canโt edit a blank page,โ I often hear.
True enough. And I understand why the advice is given.
But itโs also true that editing a bad page can be a waste of time.
Writing tonight, I badly wanted a synonym for "jeweler" that sounded more medieval, but none seemed suitable. So I settled for "bangles merchant."
Which made me realize than men in this culture tie charms in their beards.
Of such needs and whims are worlds born. ๐คฃ
