We studied 3.3 Billion views to decode the YouTube Shorts algorithm.
What makes a short viral?
How much money can they make?
Are they actually good for growth?
Here are our findings:
Lesson #1
-the more people earn, the more they spend.
In 2022 this was my greatest mistake- i would make a very comfortable amount of money and then spend all of it on “the next great video”
DO NOT DO THIS.
Mistake #1: cross country video
In this video- my brother and I flew out to California where we could bike 3,000 miles back home to South Carolina.
Probs:
1.) thumbnails were not made before shooting video
2.) idea was not properly assessed for clickability
Lmk ur thoughts
@SkyeGibbens This means so much to me, thank you for your kind words! Im glad you get the message— This series became much more to me than a YouTube video- I realized how hard it is, and how important it is for everyone to understand that people in need need our help and empathy!💙💙
And even getting 1,000 subscribers took me years as well! You have to love YouTube to get this far. I’ve relentlessly obsessed over my videos every day for a decade and reinvested every single dollar back into the channel.
Think decades, not years. YouTube isn’t going anywhere.
When I was a little boy my Dad asked me if I wanted to learn how to whittle a grasshopper.
He gave me a pocket knife and a piece of wood and said “Here you go son, cut off everything that doesn’t look like a grasshopper.”
I still think about this.
