When I was a kid, I used to read books with bright pictures in them. They had a scarce amount of dialogue with a surplus of illustrations. They taught me to be respectful to my friends and family. That’s what I enjoyed about children’s books.

My Dad and Stepmom speak good Spanish, but I was never able to understand them. However, to overcome this, I took 3 years of Spanish in school. Now, I can usually understand & keep up with their conversations. It makes me feel smart & accomplished.

I taught myself to read when I was 3 years old so I can relate to the self taught reading. Additionally, I read the dictionary when I would get bored because my favorite music artist did the same thing. That’s how I got to where I’m at now.

When I’m given an essay prompt, I feel overwhelmed from the start. I never thought to start an essay in the middle of the paper if I couldn’t think of an introduction paragraph. I feel like moving on then later coming back to a place where I’m stuck could help.
