Unfortunately, I won't be able to complete anything for weeks 3 and 4 of this course, because I need to focus on a different time-sensitive project. #DisabledArtist#disabled#Disability
The assignment for week 2 of my drawing class was to create a portrait of Gwendolyn Bennett. She was a black woman of huge importance in the Harlem Renaissance. I was particularly inspired by her poem 'Heritage' #portrait#portraiture#HarlemRenaissance#ArtDeco#BlackJoy
and was an internationally recognised sculptor. She spent most of her adult life living and working in Rome, after leaving the US due to the racism she endured there. I've really enjoyed learning about this amazing artist, and working on something so different.
I usually shy away from drawing people off any kind, except maybe the occasional self portrait.
But thanks to this course, I've spent the last week working on a portrait of Edmonia Lewis, and really enjoying the change. Edmonia Lewis was a black Native American from the 19th c,
I decided to try one of my animal designs on a pumpkin for the first time. Spooky Halloween rat! Admittedly it took all day to do with both my hands in splints #pumpkin#PumpkinCarving#rat#AnimalArt#DisabledArtist
As analogies go, this one is wildly ineffective, since lichen is pretty, and Endometriosis is horrible and excruciating. Maybe something with thorns would work better...
The changing colours are beautiful, mesmerising, the joy of celebrating Halloween. But you can't forget the thorns, the seasonal depression, the increase in pain and illness that comes with the change in season
One of this week's prompts was "mask", so I decided to draw an FFP2 mask with masking tape. Doing so was probably still too much for my hands, so I'll mostly be sticking to photography for the rest of the prompts. #DisabledArtist#disabled#Disability#sketch#mask#covid_19
I had an injection in my left wrist yesterday, so I won't be able to draw for at least a week. In meantime I'm trying different ways of depicting the prompts for #plastober.
It's a rest day on #plastober so instead I thought I'd draw something from the amazing #botober - a list generated by an AI. I picked the prompt "rainbow space walrus" and used it as an excuse to do a very gay portrait of Wally the Walrus #DisabledArtist#WallyTheWalrus#sketch
Today's prompt is "selfie". I'm not 100% happy with it. But then again if you told me a couple of years ago I could do something like this with my left hand... #plastober#DisabledArtist#sketch#drawing
I think part of the problem is that I've been trying to work digitally and nothing else, when I'm a very tactile person and like to make big, physical things
I've been struggling with creative block for several months and it really sucks. I'm really hoping using some daily prompts will kick start something for me...
