Miramichi Fire would like to remind you that with warmer temperatures arriving, ice on lakes, ponds, and rivers is rapidly weakening. Remember: No ice is safe ice during thaw conditions. If you see someone fall through the ice, call 911 immediately and do not go onto the ice.

Look Twice, Save A Life !
With warm weather, MFD knows there's nothing like outdoor grilling, but it's important to remember that anything that burns is a FIRE HAZARD. Learn simple tips and you will be on the way to safe grilling. This handy tip sheet provides easy-to-follow guidance on grilling safety.
Grass Fires are Dangerous!
They spread quickly and can cause damage to homes, forests, and other property. Burning releases smoke and pollutants into the air, which can be harmful to human and animal health. Contrary to belief, burning grass doesn't make it grow more abundantly.
Approx. 3 out of 5 fire deaths happen in homes with no smoke alarms or smoke alarms that do not operate (NFPA).
Prevent a tragedy!
- Install on each floor level and inside sleeping rooms
- Test once per month
- Replace alarms greater than 10 years old
SMOKE ALARMS SAVE LIVES!!!
MFD would like to make you aware that Health Canada is warning against the fire risk posed by a number of LG free-standing electric ranges. More than 137,000 units of the affected stoves were sold in Canada between 2016 and June 2024, recall link below.

With temperatures rising and bodies of water beginning to melt, MFD is reminding residents about the importance of ice safety. Ice thickness is no longer suitable for winter recreational use. As ice melts, it becomes increasingly dangerous and unpredictable, so stay off the ice.
Since 2018 MFD have installed Smoke Alarms in over 200 residences. In 2024 NBOFM launched a campaign to get Smoke Alarms in homes across the province. If you or someone you know need a new or replacement Smoke Alarm, please call 506-261-4038 or email [email protected].
With a winter storm is approaching, MFD reminds you to keep your outside vents clear of snow and ice. Take a couple of minutes to remove snow from these areas to avoid Carbon Monoxide (CO) build up in the home.
MFD wants to remind you that checking your smoke alarm and changing the batteries when rolling back your clocks tonight, is one of the simplest, most effective ways to keep these important lifesaving devices in good working order.
During the cold winter months, you will have your heating system on to keep you comfortable. Sadly, it's a fact that half of home heating fires are reported during the cold months. Miramichi Fire does not want any of our residents to become one of those statistics.
MFD got a chance to participate in #skillscanadanb
