Good air, clean water, and food are fundamental to a good life. In that sense, they should be treated as fundamental rights.
But air quality has been steadily degrading, and it's not really part of the mainstream conversation. That needs to change. Right now, if you look at the site (link in comments), everything looks green. But as we get closer to the end of the year, things will start looking much worse.
Solving air pollution is hard, but the first step is simple: people need to know what they're breathing.
Right now, that's not possible. India does collect air quality data, but it's either locked away, too broad to tell you anything about your locality, or just not published at all. There's no single place a citizen can go to get a clear, neighbourhood-level picture.
So we set out to fix that.
Today, we're launching an open, pan-India air quality platform, built in partnership with leading organisations in the field. The goal: give citizens, schools, local governments, and communities direct access to the data that affects their daily lives.
At @RainmatterOrg , we've been committed to keeping this conversation alive, and this platform is our attempt at making that happen. All the data on the site is free and open, so others can build on top of it.
A final-year law student, Rishi Kumar from Tamil Nadu National Law University, refuses to delete his blog criticising the Supreme Court… despite pressure from his own university.
Why?
Because the administration allegedly received calls from advocates, judges, and others claiming the post harms the institution’s “reputation.”
The blog titled “The Supreme Court of India Has No Spine” questioned the court’s decision to ban an NCERT textbook chapter on judicial corruption.
But here’s the real issue:
A law student is being told to silence himself… for expressing a legal opinion.
His response?
Clear and powerful:
“My opinions are mine… you do not own my voice or my conscience.”
He even said he’s ready to face disciplinary action rather than back down.
This isn’t just about one blog.
This is about academic freedom vs institutional pressure.
If law students… the future of the judiciary are discouraged from questioning the system,
then who exactly is allowed to question it?
Criticism of institutions ≠ disrespect.
Silencing criticism = weakening democracy.
It seems that interns from BJP IT Cell are sitting at MEIT and issuing orders to block accounts and posts which are slightly critical of the government.
.@AshwiniVaishnaw is India no more a democracy?
Even a slight opposition to the government is unbearable now?
This is so shameful for BCCI. A ₹20 water bottle was sold for ₹100 during the T20 World Cup final. When it comes to facilities, BCCI can’t even get the seats cleaned, yet they are shamelessly looting fans. https://t.co/9gYi8ctBia
@Captain_Mani72@BDAOfficialGok If the map location is not disclosed. Agents may collude with officials and may lead to minimal bidding on the site and get allocated at favorable price. Plus Map link doesn't get updated on day of notification. It will usually few days before bidding starts .
@Captain_Mani72@BDAOfficialGok For some of the plots google maps link doesn't open at all. This keeps happening for some sites in each notification. This seems intentional. Ex: Entry 13 which points to ngef, banaswadi is doesn't anywhere in map
How Bengaluru Police Work — A True Story from Bellandur
In one of the residential societies of Bellandur, a deeply troubling incident involving children aged 10–13 years reveals the rot in our system.
A young girl was harassed by a group of boys from the same complex. They sent her a neatly wrapped “gift box” — inside were live lizards and insects. The girl opened it, screamed in terror, and broke down crying. Her parents, shocked and angered, confronted the boys’ families. The argument soon escalated.
Seeking justice, the girl’s parents approached the local police station — but what followed was worse than the original incident. The police inspector summoned both families, berated them, and threatened them for bringing a “petty issue.” He then demanded ₹10,000 from the victim’s family and ₹5,000 from the other family — without filing an FIR or taking any official action.
No justice. No record. Just extortion in uniform.
Moral of the story:
When even child harassment becomes a source of income for the police, what hope does justice have in Bengaluru?

This is what the road near Manyata Tech Park looks like, just a kilometer from the park.
Note: In this short stretch, there are more than 10 potholes. I don’t understand on what basis the government claims there are only 10,000 potholes in Bangalore
The biggest problem in India is that there is absolutely no credible deterrence for govt servants to make them think twice before abusing their power and maliciously approving things which can actually kill people
An average Indian govt employee has zero fear for approving things that they have no business approving.
They can approve medicines that they know are are unfit for human consumption and can prove lethal. They can approve facilities, where an average person won't make rat poison, to make life saving drugs.
And they do all of this with the firm knowledge that if they are ever caught, which is rare because they will always find a scapegoat, all they will get is a suspension (read paid holiday) for a few days, then business will resume, they will even get their promotion and 37 years later, if found guilty by our courts, a fine of Rs 50.
So what can we do?
In this regard, let's drop our ego and learn from China. Because 20 years ago, they went thru the exact same scandal.
In 2006, a company called Qiqihar No. 2 Pharmaceutical Co, used make an injectable drug called Armillarisin A. This was a common drug that was used to treat stuff like fever, cold etc.
It was a commonly prescribed injection back in China for a quick cure from fever. I guess people used them to get back to work quickly, else the companies would dock pay. I mean China didn't become a manufacturing juggernaut just like that no.
But I digress.
This drug had an ingredient called Glycerine, which as research suggests, is used as a solvent, stabilizer humectant or as a sweetener in medicines. The sweetener property is majorly used in cough syrups. (Note this point)
Usually Glycerine is available at about $1500 or Rs 1.3 Lakhs per metric ton.
Which sometimes is a little expensive for pharma companies
So some fraudulent pharma companies, use a substitute which is available at 1/3rd the price of Pharmaceutical glycerine.
It is called Diethylene glycol (DEG).
DEG looks like Glycerine, walks like Glycerine, talks like glycerine, but isn't glycerine. It is in fact the bang opposite of Glycerine.
Because, unlike Glycerine which is used in medicines, DEG is used in brake fluids and antifreeze.
If you have ever read your car manual, they explicitly tell you not to drink brake fluids. Because if you do, the DEG will annihilate your kidney and you will die.
If Glycerine is Nelson Mandela, then DEG is Osama Bin Laden. And you don't go near Osama Bin Laden.
Unfortunately Qiqihar No. 2 Pharmaceutical Co went near it. In fact they swiped DEG right on Tinder and Netflix and Chilled with them.
To save a few pennies, they used DEG instead of Glycerine in their injections and sent it out to the market. And doctors in Guangzhou and Annhui provinces used this batch.
Predictably within a days patients started dropping dead. In Annhui 10 people died, most of them above 60 years of age. Then in Guangzhou, 62 people were given this injection of whom 13 died. Dozen others were hospitalized.
Quickly it became a major scandal in China. People started losing trust over their pharma body. There was fear of bad medicine and it had nothing to do with Bon Jovi. They feared for their lives.
So the govt started investigating quickly. And by quickly I mean quickly, because there are no 3 member panels with retired judges heading such inquiries.
They realized that, with the existing standards, there was no way this batch of injections should have reached the market. So they started investigating the officials of the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) responsible for clearing this kind of stuff.
Turns out they had actually taken bribes from Qiqihar to approve those drugs. Quality tests had been falsified and sometimes entirely skipped because they had opened a special green channel of approval.
They quickly realized the bribery trail went all the way up to the head of the SFDA - a certain Mr Zheng Xiaoyu.
They found that 1998 and 2005, Zheng and his subordinates had accepted bribes from over 20 pharmaceutical companies, amounting to 6.49 million yuan (U$ 850,000 or close to Rs 8 Cr). He had taken bribes in the form of fees, gifts, donations, trips by his wife and son and a host of other innovative methods that would make an Indian govt servant proud.
He had, in effect established a culture of cash for approvals, which many Chinese companies misused.
In Feb 2007, the Chinese govt arrested Zheng.
He was then suspended from his duties for six months and when the heat died down, he was reinstated and he retired and lived happily ever after in a foreign country with all his money.
Because that's what happens in India.
But this didn't happen in India. It happened in China. There they do things differently.
In Apr 2007 his trial started.
In May 2007 he was sentenced to death for bribery, dereliction of duty and endangering public health
In June 2007 his appeal for mercy was denied.
On July 10, 2007, he was executed by lethal injection.
Not only that, they permanently shut down the Qiqihar No. 2 Pharmaceutical Co and reorganized the entire SFDA. Not only that re certified all 200000 drugs sold in China, made mandatory clinical trial data and created a national adverse drug reaction (ADR) database
And on deep research, I haven't found any drug scandal post that in China.
In India, everyone who is arrested will be out on bail within 30 days. No Govt official will ever be harmed, and things will be back to normal within 60 days and the wait for the next children deaths will begin.
Because in India we don't have deterrence. And in such cases, only deterrence will work.
P:S: I am not saying whoever approved this batch and factory should be executed. But the least we should do is try them for murder. Because that is what they have done.
P:P:S: In case you think DEG sounds familiar and I had asked you to note one point. Well it is.
Because it is the exact thing that has caused the death of 22 innocent children in MP.
Now in China when DEG killed people, they executed the guy responsible for its clearance. Unfortunately in India, his counterpart, most likely will be promoted
you know what is tax terrorism. i got a call from GST officer in etawah that your vehicle is siezed. i asked the reason so he said because you sold this monocarton box at rs 8.4 while market price should be rs 10.
it is a total harassment. too much for ease of business in india.
@GST_Council How do you calculate the market price of customised item. he asked me the bribe of Rs 25000. i have a recording of entire conversation. Name of the officer is S K Tripathi. this gentleman is asking for bribe again n again.
If action is not taken against him i seriously dont how to run our industries.

@ICCCBengaluru , I have raised 5 complaints to cleared garbage in BBMP app. They keep closing the tickets without resolving, They even close the reopened tickets. No use in raising the complaints. ticket no: 20794558. Whats the point of having portal to report issues?
These 2 pics are 11 years apart. In these 11 years, I have had a job which takes about 55-60 hours of work per week. There is also fair bit of travel involved and I have a young family at home. And I am a big time foodie and also have a sweet tooth
Over the last few years, many working professionals with similar time constraints have approached me for help to begin/scale their fitness journey. Written this thread which I think will be beneficial- both educational as well as actionable- for all such folks
Here you go👇

@anilhudda@anilhudda I see that many days ur returns are of range 3 to 10 percent on capital of 4 cr on many days? Is that so? Isn't it aggressive from seller perspective? Though it's commendable u loose much less on a loss day
