Not to mention the encouragement of sexualization of them. I also partly blame Blizzard for that, because it's seems like they only give attention to characters with sex appeal (which is a horrible business model for a PG13 game). I still blame the community for fostering it too.
With all of that being said, after I post this thread I'm deleting Twitter from my phone for my own mental health. It gives me nothing but anxiety seeing how this character I love so much is being mistreated. Politics and other weirdos are also a problem, but that's off topic.
Especially since season 12, Ventures own Twitter community has mischaracterized and oc-ified them to no end. I blame the oc-ification part on Blizzard not giving them any content, and I believe it's a sort of coping mechanism.
My thoughts on Venture Twitter, a thread
I want to start this by saying I absolutely love Venture as a character, and they're the only reason I play overwatch (ofc I main them). I only got back on Twitter so I could see more artwork of them. But now all I see here is hate.
The Venture community on here has also gotten worse. I partly blame Ventures own voice actor for fostering parasocial relationships, but I understand that might have just been from the excitement of becoming a voice actor for a game they love, and wanting to interact with others.
–seeing all of this now. I blame Blizzard for the most part, because they gave them no origin story, no cosmetics, nothing. Blizzards business model, along with Microsoft, leaves a lot of heroes high and dry when it comes to content, and its especially affected Venture.
The only reason I ever see people hating on Venture here is because they're non-binary, always calling them "ugly" and talking about how bad their design is (which is a lie, they have a great design). They had a very positive reception during season 9 and 10, so its really weird–
@littletapeworms That seems to be a big problem right now on Twitter specifically, and that really irks me. That and mischaracterization, as well as oc-ification (I blame this mostly on Blizzard because they decided to do fuck-all with Venture, and it might be some sort of coping mechanism)
@illnessmento @Kelpchiepz 2/2 in them. Personality and gender identity (I'm trans), so seeing all of this has been a little hard on me. I'm hoping with time this'll all fix itself, and Venture will be treated just like every other hero and not shoved to the side for eternity
@illnessmento @Kelpchiepz Yeah, I think the main reason this has happened is because Blizzard decided to do fuck-all regarding Venture and the oc-ification is a sort of coping mechanism. It's also Twitter so you can't expect too much
I genuinely love Venture as a character, and I see a lot of myself 1/2
@P__X__E @euphieondablock That's exactly why I don't like the ship, I've just never been able to put it into words as well as you did! A lack of respect for Archeology would be an immediate deal-breaker for Venture, and they also canonically don't like Mauga. The math doesn't math here
