@Eliza_Artz@thecoda236@SecretDJFaust I actually think it was a console issue rather than a game issue. Online in switch 1 games work flawlessly on switch 2 for me but hardly worked with my OLED
I think the big thing that would make GKC’s more palatable is if they were given their own content server. It’s a given that they wont go away and very likely will be used on the next console so why not make a dedicated server that won’t have to be taken down later on?
Honestly, the hate on Switch 2 Game-Key Cards is kinda missing the point. They aren’t some corporate scam to screw us over—they’re actually saving physical gaming.
Look at the tech reality right now: games are just too massive. A ton of modern titles are way bigger than the 64GB cartridge limit. If Nintendo started manufacturing massive 100GB+ carts to fit them, the retail price of those physical games would be absolutely astronomical.
Instead of just giving up and going 100% digital-only like everyone else, Nintendo actually found a pretty clever middle ground.
Plus, there are some major perks people are overlooking:
The Switch 2's onboard SSD is pretty good. Running a huge game from internal storage instead of a slower cartridge means way better performance and barely any loading screens.
Unlike a digital code that gets locked to your account forever, the physical card *is* the license. That means you can still lend it to a friend or resell it when you’re done.
You still get the actual box for your shelf, and stores can still stock them.
At the end of the day, it's just a practical solution to a really tough hardware problem. Game-Key Cards are basically Nintendo's way of recognizing that fans still love physical media and trying to keep it alive. 🤷🏾♂️
The only thing I wish is that there were Switch 2 models with higher internal storage 😩 256GB these days is not enough lol
@lottemunsterttv@TaiDawg@Kagerisu@excaliburn3d They wouldn’t quite be able to bring Pokemon as it is to other platforms. Nintendo owns the trademark for the series and the characters. If they brought Pokemon elsewhere it would need to be rebooted as something else.
@waifooheave@CicroTK@r33se69@SkandiTV@FF2389 You could make the argument for cross buy but any costs involved with porting the game to be played natively were already factored into development of the original release. Cross buy was simply a bonus rather than the norm to bring back good will after the ps3 and the vita.
@waifooheave@CicroTK@r33se69@SkandiTV@FF2389 Not all 360 games are backwards compatible. PowerPC code isn’t exactly drag and drop. Microsoft specifically took the time and effort to make them compatible. No ps3 games run through backwards compatibility on ps4/5 for the reason that the Cell architecture is hard to emulate.
@waifooheave@CicroTK@r33se69@SkandiTV@FF2389 Games don’t always work without dedicated ports, x86 processors and arm processors don’t natively read PowerPC code and developing an emulation layer takes time and money that market conditions have proved to be a waste of time.
@Hashgraphian@Aelita_LL@CyberStudios808 What? It’s on par with the ps4’s gpu in handheld mode and outperforms the ps4 gpu when docked. It runs ps5 games with only a slight visual and performance downgrade.
@TarlZaralka@SwitchUpG Don’t get me wrong, optimization matters. Thing is that if the steam deck was more powerful, it should be able to emulate switch 1 titles at the same resolution and framerate or even better than the switch 2 using just brute force and it just can’t.
@Iaindigenous@H4ppyd4yss@badjujubean117 Probably not for this specific port. It’d probably run worse tbh. If the port wasn’t handed out to aspyr it would’ve come out just fine.
@neptombz@Omnipotentgam0r Not sure if you are fr looking right now, but if you are actually looking to pick it up and you don’t mind picking it up digitally it’s currently on sale from walmart for 40$ (provided you happen to be located in the US ofc)
@DS5_XB1@WolfgangMishima The foreseeable future could mean 5 to 10 years down the line. If we lost access to redownloads on the exact date of the store shutdown they would give notice. Point was that you will still have access past july 2027 or whenever it was that they decided to axe the store.
@DS5_XB1@WolfgangMishima It depends on if they plan on disabling the content server at the same time. The store being shut down doesn’t always mean the ability to redownload goes offline as well.
@S0vereignfdawn@xShephardx@BlooHook I mean, there’s a huge difference between a free demo that they had no obligation to keep up and a full priced game. Not only that but movies have completely different license requirements than games and were only removed because production companies hate the average consumer.
@XanderXCIV@Skopin_EH@DJK1NG_Gaming The license expiring would not make the download unavailable. It only impacts the ability to sell the game digitally through the eshop. The game itself remains on the content server to allow for redownloads for those who bought the game including GKC users.
@Archpwn97@tolgasilver@Skopin_EH@DJK1NG_Gaming So far to my knowledge there haven’t been many cases where a game on switch has been removed from both the Eshop and the content server and I still have access to to download many delisted network tests and games.
@Archpwn97@tolgasilver@Skopin_EH@DJK1NG_Gaming GKC’s download straight through the content server rather than through the eshop so as long as the game is available for others to redownload it will be available for GKC users.
