@NapsWest Named for the late George Smith. He taught my husband chemistry at Manchester University many years ago. He was one of the authors of Primulas of Europe and America by Smith, Burrow and Lowe.
@britgardhistory I noticed that you are writing about the history of gardening in Rutland. There is an excellent paperback entitled 'Garden Plants of Leicestershire and Rutland' which was written by Graham Jackson and published by what was then the NCCPG in 1999. Currently available from Amazon.
@billdewilde@KingscoteEstate I was very interested in your Kingscote post. I grow rare primulas and in my collection I have Primula 'Kingscote'. I acquired this plant more than 25 years ago from an old gentleman who lived very close to Kew Bridge. I have often wondered who raised this primula.
@billdewilde@KingscoteEstate I am fascinated by your picture as I grow a very old primula called 'Kingscote' and have often wondered about it's origins.
