Who am I?

—America: founding fathers, federalism, Bill of Rights, etc
—Life is a bittersweet adventure. Smooth or stabby, it makes me smile & scream.
—OCD: I get obsessed w/a topic, do a dozen RTs, disappear, new obsession
The reason this meme resonates with me is that it captures a common tactic in public democrat debate. Someone points to a broad trend and instead of discussing whether the trend is real, the conversation immediately shifts to an exception.
Mention fatherlessness and someone brings up a successful person raised without a father. Mention failing schools and someone points to a student who excelled. Mention crime and someone finds a neighborhood that remains safe. The exception is treated as though it disproves the pattern.
The problem is that exceptions do not erase trends. Nobody is claiming every circle is red.
They will call me a outlier... An exception.... an anomaly.
The point is that when most of the circles are red, focusing exclusively on the blue one prevents an honest discussion about what the overall picture actually shows. Serious analysis begins with patterns, not exceptions.
That is why so many conversations about public democrat policy go nowhere. Instead of asking why a problem exists, people spend all their energy trying to prove the problem doesn’t exist because they found a single exception.
Reality doesn’t work that way. If most of the circles are red, then the responsible thing to do is explain why.

Turns out that @LeaderJohnThune was totally projecting when he said the SAVE Act was an influencer campaign.
Senator John Thune is compromised by a company that literally exists to sell access to himself.
Pass it on.
Stuff like this makes it very difficult for people to trust elections.
California has a serious problem.
Raman was in a distant third and now she’s leading every new drop to completely change the outcome. And there could obviously be legitimate explanations (esp since CA allows ballot harvesting, which is a problem in itself).. but no way anyone can look at them taking weeks to count ballot and outcome completely changing in one direction each time without having serious concerns.
@MattWalshBlog My friend was given a down syndrome diagnosis for her pregnancy (the highest chance you could get).
Her baby was born perfect. No down syndrome.
Doctors can get it wrong!
I don't know why this showed up in my recent notis, but I'm very grateful.
I've ventured back out into the world recently, working a job w/o tutors(!), & ouch was it overwhelming.
My question: HOW do you pick what to write? For me, I'm just trying to progress from emo self-centered journaling, to something that's actually worthwhile. Something that takes me from "wa wa I had brain injuries" to "I have a rich life of the mind & there are fun ideas in there."
I don't care what I write; I just want to discipline my mind. I'm finally at the point of being able to be surrounded by multiple people talking, & now I'd like to be consistent in my relationships. But the input from humans is overwhelming.
How do I separate the worthwhile thoughts from the useless? Example: After recently finishing Ender's Game, my feeling was "why even bother; he just ended up alone & itinerant anyways." Followed by: "wait a second, he chose this life; what can I choose?" Followed by: "ohdearGodwhatis themeaningoflife canIpleasegoback toadarkquietroomalone."
I apologize for the immaturity & the run-ons! I have a 45-yr-old brain intellectually, but a non-functioning frontal lobe(?).
Do you have a link for your story so I can buy it?
Larry, if you're reading, I bought IDOT2A for a couple friends, & I'm ready to get back into fiction. I hope my local libary carries either Hard Magic or the Ahsoka series.
I always drove my kids nuts by asking “well, what do you think?” when they had a problem.
It was exactly this.
I already know the answer and can be the hero if I just tell them but that dosnt TEACH them anything.
I always told them that my goal for them was not to need me when they grew up.
@lyndseyfifield In a perfect world what the NYT did to you would show people how deceptively put together our “trusted” sources are. Setting you up as a political op and letting this man have his cover, is absolutely despicable.
I see this argument a lot lately, i.e., it's wrong to strike down assault weapon bans and other gun laws if the people in that state support those laws.
This is the exact same argument made to defend segregation and other civil rights violations. Or to use a more recent example near and dear to the left, was it wrong for courts to strike down Proposition 8 in California? After all, it passed by a majority vote! Obergefell did the same for a ton of other states whose populations would have voted to keep marriage limited to straight couples.
States rights are important, but they end where the Bill of Rights begins, at least ever since the 14th Amendment was enacted.
I don't think they actually believe in states rights at all. They just argue it in this context because it's convenient, and they think it is some sort of "gotcha" because conservatives generally advocate for states rights.
(Not picking on Robert, just using his reply as an exemplar)
Do you remember me Tara? I remember you. The day you voluntarily left the Pentagon. I remember you clearing out your office.
I was new to the building. That’s why I found it very strange. Your behavior.
I always thought journalists were well put together or stoic or something. I was wrong. Boy was I wrong.
You shrieked like a hyena “We’ll see you in court!” Or “THIS IS A VIOLATION OF THE FIRST AMENDMENT!”
As you…. voluntarily left the building.
I remember being beside myself in the face of your demeanor. You looked like an activist instead of a journalist. Like all you needed in that moment was a sign to hold up or a bra to burn.
I remember also thinking that you weren’t mentally stable. A crazy person. It was in the eyes. And the shrill voice.
I thought little of it and left the hallway as you gathered your chia pet and poster of Che Guevara or whatever it was.
Listen, I don’t have anything profound to say here other than I want the world to know what you are. And I want them to treat you the way you deserve.
You are a hacktivist masquerading as a journalist.
And nobody will remember your name.
