I apologize as the Edo State Government threatens to sue me.

A few days ago, I had demanded that the nationally acclaimed illegitimate Government in Edo State sat up to their responsibilities and paid attention to the critical issues bedeviling the State, as National ratings were showing poor leadership and absence of Governance in the state.

I realized that that opinion had disturbed my friends in Government when I saw posts and comments on social media today, saying that the Edo State Government through the Attorney General had threatened to sue me for libel and if I didn't retract and apologize for criticizing the Government and my apology must be published in a National daily and on all social media platforms, I will be sued.

First of all, let me state that Hon Samson Osagie; the Attorney General of the State is like a big brother to me, he was my Dads colleague in 2007 at the House of Representatives, we get along well and I hold him in high esteem. On his own accord, I don't think that publication would have seen the light of day but I guess he had to do his job as the Attorney of the State.

That said, I think it was in his place to advice the Government better that an attempt to stifle opposition in Edo was undemocratic and a waste of time but the Honourable AG dropped the ball in that regard and proceeded with the threat. I will also like to bring to his attention that as Attorney General, he cannot sue a private individual on behalf of the Governor. If the Governor feels he has been defamed, he should get himself a private lawyer for that enterprise. The Attorney General of the State is the Attorney of the State Government and not the lawyer of the Governor or his colleagues in Exco.

I'll address the issues raised, so that the Edo people will make sense of the reasons why the Edo State Government is intending to use taxpayers monies to sue Ogbeide Ifaluyi-isibor (a Chieftain of the PDP, former Honourable Commissioner and Official Spokesperson of the Asue Ighodalo Governorship Election Petition)

In the social media post i read, The Attorney General appeared offended with reference to the accusation that the administration of Monday Okpebholo had spent 8 months in office. June is obviously their 8th calendar month in office but from the Attorney Generals view, from their date of inauguration, they are barely 7 months in office and my exaggeration was offensive and was putting the Government in disrepute.

With reference to the assertion that the Edo State Executive Council had met only 3 times since their inauguration, the Attorney General insisted that Exco had met "Several" times and perhaps I was mischievous to have put the number '3' to it.

With reference to the observation that 'Oga' practically lives in Abuja, collects lists of contracts to award and comes to Benin to award them.
There's so much to unpack here but besides the 'Oga' that was used, let us ask the Edo State Government;

1) Who the Contractors for both flyovers( the Ramat pack and the imaginary one at Sapele road) are.

2) When EDSG advertised for such contracts on National dailies inviting bidders as prescribed by law.

3) When the bidding process was done in line with procurement laws.

4)When the State Tenders Board considered the first flyover contract and the day the Edo State Executive Council considered the contracts and awarded them to the Contractors.

Let the Secretary to Government furnish us with details of the Exco meetings where the contract to purchase SUVs, Hiluxes and Buses were considered prior to the Purchase of Several Toyota Prado SUV, Hiluxes, Buses and other exotic cars brandished by the State Government a few weeks after inauguration when even the first Exco appeared not to have met.

A Contract awarded by a State Government above N200million without the consideration and approval of the State Tenders Board and ratified by Exco has violated the laws.
