IS THIS REALLY MAKING CUSTOMERS SAFER — OR CREATING A NEW SECURITY RISK?

This is a serious concern that every MTN customer needs to pay attention to.

The introduction of “Non-Appearance SIM Swap” raises important questions about customer safety, identity verification, and accountability.

If a SIM can be swapped without the actual owner physically appearing, then one critical question must be answered:

🔴 How can MTN guarantee that the person requesting the SIM swap is truly the legitimate owner?

🔴 What happens if someone's personal information is used without their knowledge or consent?

🔴 What happens when the affected number is connected to bank accounts, POS transactions, OTPs, WhatsApp, email, crypto wallets and other sensitive services?

🔴 Who bears the responsibility when a customer suffers financial or digital losses from a SIM swap they never requested?

This is NOT an attack on MTN.

It is a genuine call for stronger customer protection and transparency.

A mobile number today is no longer just a tool for making calls.

It can be connected to:

💰 Bank accounts
🏦 Financial services
🔐 OTPs and authentication
📱 WhatsApp and social media
📧 Email accounts
💼 Business operations
💳 Payment platforms
🔑 Important personal accounts

A SIM swap can therefore potentially give someone access to extremely sensitive parts of a person's digital life.

⚠️ WHAT WE ARE ASKING FROM MTN:

👉 Urgently review the Non-Appearance SIM Swap process.

👉 If there are identifiable security gaps, consider temporarily suspending the process until stronger safeguards are implemented.

👉 Introduce stronger identity and ownership verification before approving any SIM swap.

👉 Send an immediate notification to the original number/customer through alternative verified channels whenever a SIM swap request is initiated or completed.

👉 Give customers a fast and reliable way to block or report an unauthorized SIM swap immediately.

👉 Most importantly, ensure that no customer loses access to their number, money, OTPs or important accounts because of a SIM swap they did not request or authorize.

📢 MTN NIGERIA, PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.

If the system is completely secure, explain the safeguards clearly to the public.

If there are vulnerabilities, fix them before they become a bigger problem.

Security should never be compromised for convenience.

CUSTOMER SECURITY MUST COME FIRST. 🔐

We are asking MTN Nigeria to take this concern seriously, investigate the potential risks surrounding Non-Appearance SIM Swap, and take whatever action is necessary to protect its customers.

Because when a customer's SIM is compromised, the damage can go far beyond losing a phone number.
