In the article, Hensarling challenges the common narrative. Deregulation did not cause the crisis. The data show a different story:
Community Reinvestment Act lending grew from $8.8 billion to $4.5 trillion between 1992 and 2007.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac raised their low-income lending quotas from 30% to 56% by 2008.
Greenspan warned about these risks before the crisis hit.
