@Paul_Derry In the U.S. many leave because of some agencies' poor leadership, no support system, poor mentorship, corruption not being handled correctly, short staffing, stress, burnout. Good old boy systems run off many as well.
Received my signed copy of "About Face" today from my friend R.S. "Rob" Sidhu. A true story of his rise and fall and betrayal as a Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Undercover Operator. I'm going to stick my face in this book over the next few days. Thank you, Rob!
Does real change come from just telling crime stories?
NO!
But it does come from revealing the substance behind them.
Huge congrats to our co-host, @HQTenForty, on the strong reviews of his new book, About Face.
It was just listed at Chapters/Indigo/Coles, and as you can see, it has already received an amazing reception from those who bought from his website.
At Obscene Reality, our goal is to move the needle on how we understand the justice system.
When you bring together perspectives from the FBI, the RCMP, and the lived experience of those within the system, you get the truth - not just the optics.
Rob's book is just a small sample of the meaningful work ahead.
Check out the reviews in the link - one of my fav is near the end by MHurst.

@Paul_Derry My opinion and my way of doing things is that the truth proves out in the end. It is the easiest to remember, and in the end, truth shows integrity, honesty, and professionalism.
Who is the "open invitation" to be on our podcast meant for?
Well, all those who know the subject matter and are brave enough to share!
We want to extend an automatically approved invitation to those in the picture.
It would be great to talk openly and unedited about politics, policing and the justice system with those like the soon-to-exit RCMP Commissioner.....

Are there very many who have not seen the movie Donnie Brasco?
Are there many who know how Joe Pistone chose that now famous name?
The picture in the post is of the real Donnie Brasco and me.
We had just had lunch, and while telling a story, Donnie quoted the words "Don't Forget Your Name."
Instantly, we knew that was the name for a book, not just any book, but his!
The story he was telling was eye-opening, yet there was so much more.
Donnie will not only soon release his book as a fellow author at Scion Press, but here is the best part, quotes from his upcoming bio:
"Today, I join Obscene Reality as a host and author of the upcoming book Donnie Brasco: Don’t Forget Your Name."
"Alongside Paul, Chris, and Rob, I’m here to provide a raw look at the psychological weight of undercover life and the mechanics of a justice system."
"I’ve seen from the deepest shadows. I didn't just inherit the name; I earned the right to stand behind it."
I, along with @chriswill451 and @HQTenForty, have had a few delays in releasing our podcast at https://t.co/o7XRZ6pTJl.
Having said that, it was worth all the delays leading up to now to have the perspective of a well-respected former FBI agent join what will be a much different experience for those who tune in to watch.
What is the one thing you've always wondered about the psychological toll of undercover work?
“Undercover work teaches you how to disappear on command — the danger is when you can’t find your way back.” - @HQTenForty
This quote is from the article below by @PeterEdwardsTS, published in the Toronto Star a couple of months ago.
As Peter said, Rob's book was released on April 7th - just a few days ago.
I know the book will be available publicly for a limited period of time; that said, I look forward to the exclusive dinners that will start in July of this year.
Rob will carefully choose where and with whom he will share his hard-won wisdom.
Organizations, agencies, and stakeholders, especially law enforcement, who think they might benefit can reach out to Rob at his website to see if he will be in their area, and who are expected to receive invitations.

As the pre-sales of this book by @HQTenForty go out from Scion Press this week, I look forward to what I know is next for this project and its future.
Why?
The hard-won wisdom in the book will benefit law enforcement in ways that only transformation and vulnerability are able.
I would suggest that law enforcement leaders take advantage of the opportunity to meet Rob at any venue he chooses to share what's in the book and beyond.
"A smart man learns from his mistakes, a wise man learns from others."
Congrats, Brother.
