Jammu & Kashmir’s State Investigation Agency has filed a chargesheet in the 1990 abduction, torture, and murder of Sarla Bhat, naming JKLF terrorist Yasin Malik as a key accused and alleged mastermind.

This marks a significant late-stage prosecution in a long-pending case tied to the violence, genocide, and exodus of Kashmiri Hindus in 1990. For many families, it represents a long-overdue step toward accountability and justice.

It is important to remember that the modern, organised form of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) was founded in Birmingham by Amanullah Khan in the late 1960s to early 1970s, with the UK serving as its primary overseas base.

While JKLF is banned in India for its involvement in terrorism and anti-state activities, it continues to operate freely in the UK.

The UK has also directly experienced JKLF-linked violence, most notably the 1984 kidnapping and murder of Indian diplomat Ravindra Mhatre in Birmingham.

The British Hindu and Indian diaspora communities continue to call for JKLF to be proscribed in the UK.

The unveiling of Sushruta’s statue at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh marks a truly historic moment in the shared histories of India and the United Kingdom. Revered as the “Father of Surgery,” the ancient Hindu physician Sushruta, who lived around 600 BCE, pioneered surgical techniques, including early forms of plastic surgery, and authored the foundational text Sushruta Samhita. This recognition not only honours his extraordinary contributions to medical science but also highlights the deep, often overlooked, global roots of surgical knowledge.

Remembering the Air India Flight 182 (Kanishka) Bombing | 23rd June 1985

On this day in 1985, Air India Flight 182, en route from Canada to India, was bombed mid-air off the coast of Ireland, killing all 329 people on board, including 268 Canadian citizens, many of them were Indian origin. It remains the deadliest act of aviation terrorism before 9/11 and the worst mass murder in the history.

The bombing was orchestrated by Pakistan-backed Khalistani extremists based in Canada. Investigations later identified members of the Babbar Khalsa, a Sikh separatist group, as the key perpetrators. Talwinder Singh Parmar, the alleged mastermind, was killed in India in 1992. The only person convicted in connection with the attack was Inderjit Singh Reyat.

The tragedy exposed serious lapses in international security and intelligence sharing and highlighted the dangers of extremism far beyond borders.

Today, we remember the victims, stand with their families, and call for continued vigilance against hate-fuelled violence. Let their memory be a reminder of the cost of intolerance.

World Sindhi Congress welcomes UN condemnation of forced religious conversion in Pakistan

Fiza Kalhoro from the World Sindhi Congress has welcomed a landmark UN intervention condemning forced religious conversions in Pakistan.
A coalition of UN officials issued a powerful joint statement, marking the UN's strongest stance on the crisis to date. The urgency is backed by data from a recent UN report: among women and girls subjected to forced conversion through marriage, 75% were Hindu and 25% were Christian. Crucially, nearly 80% of these systemic human rights violations occurred within Pakistan's Sindh province. This international recognition deeply validates their long-standing struggle of World Sindhi Congress.

INSIGHT UK hails this landmark UN statement. Time and again INSIGHT UK has drawn attention to the persecution of Pakistani Hindus, including forced marriages, the misuse of blasphemy laws, and violence against minority communities, among other serious human rights concerns. This has been a key focus of our annual Hindu Persecution Awareness Month campaign.

A community that once formed almost half the city’s population has been reduced to a tiny minority.

This is one of the most dramatic/violent demographic shifts in modern history. Karachi was once a cosmopolitan city with a thriving Hindu presence. Today, that presence has nearly disappeared.

US museum displays saree worn by Indian scientist, Nandini Harinath

Nandini Harinath, a senior scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation, is being celebrated globally as her saree is now displayed at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. The red and blue silk-cotton Saree, worn during the historic Mars Orbiter Mission, represents a milestone in both scientific achievement and cultural pride.

With a career spanning over two decades and 14 missions, Harinath served as the Deputy Operations Director and Mission Designer for Mangalyaan. Thanks to the expertise of Harinath and her team, India became the first nation to reach Mars on its maiden attempt and the first Asian country to achieve this feat.

Beyond her technical brilliance in mission design and spacecraft operations, Harinath has become a global ambassador for women in STEM. By donating her saree to the "Futures in Space" exhibit, she highlights the pivotal role women play in the global space race.

This highlights the strength and brilliance of Hindu women in STEM, while celebrating the elegance of Indian cultural identity. It’s a powerful reminder that global innovation and cultural heritage can go hand in hand, inspiring the next generation of scientists to aim high without leaving their roots behind.

A historic spiritual milestone was witnessed yesterday (9 May 2026) as thousands across the world came together in one voice for the Chinmaya Gītā Samarpaṇam — a world record Gītā Chanting offering dedicated to the timeless wisdom of the Śrīmad Bhagavad Gītā.

As part of the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav celebrations marking 75 years of the Chinmaya Mission, seekers from every corner of the globe united to chant Chapter 15 — Puruṣottama Yoga — in an extraordinary collective act of devotion and gratitude.

From children to grandparents, from first-time chanters to lifelong seekers, people from all walks of life participated with immense enthusiasm and dedication. Thousands of voices resonating in unison transformed this offering into a truly global yajña — a moment that will remain etched in hearts for years to come.

What made this achievement even more remarkable was the sheer scale and complexity behind it. Coordinating close to 100,000 thousand participants spread across continents, countries, and multiple time zones was an enormous logistical undertaking. Despite geographical distances, differing schedules, and countless organisational challenges, the spirit of unity and devotion prevailed — reflecting the universal message of the Gītā and the tireless commitment of sevaks worldwide.

This was not merely an event; it was a powerful reminder that spirituality transcends borders, languages, and generations. Through collective chanting, the global community experienced the joy, strength, and harmony that arise when humanity comes together with a shared purpose.

Bangladesh: 15 year old Hindu boy hacked in police station

In September 2024 a Hindu teenage boy was hacked by a mob inside a police station in Bangladesh for allegedly making "objectionable comments" about Prophet Mohammad.

“A college student Utsav Mandol was hacked at Khulna City by Islamists. Allegations against him was he posted statement that is considered blasphemy in social media. Without forensic evidence he was detained by police and the mob lunched him in the police station where Army personnel was also present,” said Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities.

Blasphemy is a favourite pretext for Islamists to use violence against Hindus including murder.

What is shocking, is that this happened in a police station.

Mūrtis of Bhagavāna Śrī Kṛṣņà vandalized in Pakistan

Last month in Karachi, Pakistan, Mūrtis of Bhagavāna Śrī Kṛṣņà and the Gopis were vandalized at "Sagan Mason," a historic 1937 building. Attackers decapitated the Mūrtis, sparking outrage within the Hindu community. Despite local demands for justice, authorities have remained largely silent, and no arrests have been made.
This desecration is not an isolated incident but a symptom of the systemic Hindu genocide and religious cleansing that has persisted in the region for decades.

Since the Partition, the Hindu population in Pakistan has decreased due to state-sanctioned discrimination, forced conversions, and the destruction of Mandirs.

Targeted demolition of religious symbols and the failure to protect minority lives constitute a "slow-motion genocide."
By erasing the cultural and physical presence of Hindus, extremists aim to finalize the total homogenization of the state, leaving the remaining minority community in a perpetual state of terror and existential threat.

Congratulations to British Hindu Bodhana Sivanandan for rising to No. 1 in British women’s chess at only 11.

Bodhana Sivanandan, aged 11, has become Great Britain’s No. 1 women’s chess player, overtaking four-time British Women’s Champion Lan Yao, and she has also entered the world’s top 100 women for the first time.

Her FIDE rating is 2366, and her rise has been driven by strong results in France, Austria, and the 4NCL league. She is Indian-origin, based in North London, and began playing during the COVID lockdown after finding a chessboard her father was about to throw away.
